    Just look at "storm" created by "Boot Camp" (AAPL) in Mac community.

    I hate to admit it but (near) everyone is really happy to be able to run Windows on their Macintoshes. Except me, remembering Linux gaming effected by Dual boot and OS/2 stuff.

    Having people running Windows rather than "I hate M$, I am 133t!" people is a better thing for a company health. :)

    What Real Networks and couple of companies say is, one day there won't be "simple" thing as filename, file to play when you need to watch/listen some critical stuff so a consensus should be reached about "DRM" and how to implement it to open source operating systems.

    Begging what? Linux community?

    As far as I know, they are the only (stupid?) company to commercially support Linux platform and have a DRM capable program since they (stupidly) care about your OS.

    One day, they remove "linux" from that drop down list, I wonder who loses. After 3-5 unstable builds, your Mplayer supports half of the formats they currently give away for free. No worries.

    It becomes "microsoft". You know, the company which says "DIE" to other OSes they didn't ship themselves and still amazingly get supported more than Real networks.

    Get rid of karma whoring and check http://www.realnetworks.com/ to have a clue what they talk about, why it matters and what they warn the Linux against.

    Real Networks Helix opensource project is a huge success and they started an empire on mobile devices.

    They also have 2.2 million monthly paying subscribers to their exclusive services. One of rare companies can sell multimedia service in this piracy hell.

    What about you guys catch up? BTW, what was the arguments to make mplayer work under Linux? I mean to view Windows Media which Microsoft doesn't give a shit to your preferred OS?

    When someone says "Betacam", they speak about Betacam SP, not original Betacam.

    Speaking about the SP format, it takes 20 mins with a huge transformator to "erase" the tape if you have to. Magnetic fields are that high.

    Soon (not yet), when people in industry says "Betacam", it will mean "Betacam Digital" or "HD Betacam".

    People should take a tour in a TV studio or movie studio and see the "real" Sony empire.

    If you are in business, it looks real funny when you read things like "Sony can't sell iPod things, they are doomed".

    There is "Sony" involved somehow in the production. Always.

    They should start to advertise the "Professional" Sony to end users/customers so they don't get false impressions. There are people thinking "betacam" or "digital betacam" has something to do with beta video tapes :)

    (beta was better of course!) :)

    Besides jokes, Sony has a real image problem. It is obvious.

    What I know by experience is: If you clean install win2k (not sure about xp) , the firewall does not turn on auto. You have roughly 1 minutes (if on 24/7 cable etc) before getting infected by BLASTER or some variant and start "mouse cursor dance".

    If you people (anyone reading this) install a fresh copy of Windows, do this:

    1) Get (download) a freeware firewall like zonealarm,whatever and keep its installer handy. Also if MS allows,get service pack.

    2) While installing windows: DISCONNECT from net. Unplug ethernet simply

    3) After installing Windows, install service pack directly. Don't care about gfx etc driver

    4) Install firewall (or enable SP2 firewall)

    5) Plug your ethernet and let "windows update party" begin.

    It really costed me great hassle trying to "help" friends PC as I forgot everything about worms etc (OS X user here). It was a stupid nightmare I say. Don't forget the plug :)

    I already don't buy anything having a funny name like "D Link" etc. I always buy stuff from known companies actually invents something, cares about updating their firmware (Look,US Robotics still posts Courier modem updates!) etc.

    They are wannabe companies selling cheap products which costs more later. Just look to that example.

    Now, think about this: The moron coding the firmware queries a time server which ALL end users should stay. It is like querying root nameservers hard coded into NIC.

    That code,written by that moron also cares about "Link", "Security" and "Specs".

    Not just DDOS'ing poor Danish hobbyist. God knows what will happen if you rely on that firmware (OS)

    Holy shite!!!!, I went and downloaded America's Army. Played a game online. Jacked up the video settings to highest possible in the preferences, world, detail, etc. Smooth as a baby's ass-I have NEVER seen graphics like this in a game on a Mac, ever. Going to go out and buy me an external drive for this mac just for games- I am totally blown away! Un-Freakin Believable!! All you Whiners saying that this is bad, no development, etc. (this makes Apple and OSX a REAL player now) do not get it. I do not have to wait for Mac games to catch up-been waiting for over 20 years now. Finally can the superior hardware, dual core MacBook Pro, 2Ghz, 256 vram, etc. Games on my mac, what a concept. Figure using XP as a gaming tool is worth all the complaints. Using OSX to do everything else I want to use a computer for completes the balance. All I can say is WOW. I can finally play the games I have wanted to. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    MY NOTE: Americas Army has OS X binary which runs on G4/G5 and using OS X technologies to the limit such as Core Audio 5.1 sound.

    I rest my case Slashdot. Also it is a pity to be forced to post with "karma" since you know the real zealots,fanatics.

    So you are saying for example, Opera ASA which makes big deals with Nokia,Ericsson to include the Opera browser to mobile phones will not pay Trolltech for QT.

    QT makes 'Opera' possible.

    If you get paid for software, you pay to the SDK/toolkit you build software on.

    Simple. CCCP is gone you know.

    I don't see any company building commercial software on QT Toolkit complains. It is always and only "Slashdot". In fact, companies PAY to Trolltech and they even "donate" to Trolltech and brag about it.

    I have fallen back to ISP mail these days and had chance to review all mail providers (including yahoo, which you know in fact rocketmail).

    There are sites, I mean trustable ones (not spammers etc) are supporting the latest IMAP technologies and latest security.

    That is the thing which I don't get. Why GMail?

    I would fire the IT department guy who buys "same x86" machine 30% more expensive than similar machines just because it has Apple logo on it.

    Apple has built an entire OS on Mach and FreeBSD, please let them do provide X11 with it! XWindows and Windows has NOTHING in common except the names!

    I know not to reply to AC trolls but if you look that way, the STORY is Spam itself. E.g. Gmail mentioned. I also didn't know "fastmail" which was created by 2 guys and offering free services became an ENTERPRISE.

    Next time you blame a person who PAYS for Reporting SPAM for SPAMMING, be careful. There are laws against it.

    There are many things they are miles away from eachother but the simple thing is, one of them is C, other is C++

    Launch some "Gapp" and "Kapp" next to each other.

    See how much they look, act differently? That is the thing they want to fix.

    Also forcing people to run a GUI application they installed from Shell is really, really needless elitism. I hated to type "/usr/local/bin/guiapp" in a graphical environment. Just to launch it.

    Yes, GUI tools should have an installer, install by doubleclick and show in "K" or "foot" menu.
