    I can't believe people still "defend" Google like they are kind of unpaid PR officials.

    The services offered by Google lately are... Spyware. I can't imagine the number of non US (or USA) govt. workers relying on Google for their private mail and now this, storing PERSONAL DATA on their network!

    Were there a "hidden gif" somewhere on Google page that we missed? "We" as people using other search engines etc.

    If there is a thing like that, please tell the address, all of this looks so surreal to me (and others). :)

    Or don't jump up and down next time shouting "spyware!" when $400 Software package you purchased tries to access to net, to check for updates!

    You should report the clients to review their statements in job application. You know, "basic computer knowledge".

    There are even seperate standards for healthcare , HIPAA is World standard now.

    I wouldn't want to work with a company allowing such morons having access to my health data. You shouldn't allow them to work there too.

    I am speechless about people using 2 firewalls simultaneously, jump to web forums as "there! Spyware! It accessed the net" when a poor shareware tries to check new version and using any Google services, especially services like these.

    Wow, thank you. As a guy using a single G5 1600 and not caring much about Intel or pirated OS X I had no clue about it.

    I thought it was a simple "plist" hack or something.

    If someone actually trusts such binary cracked (to kernel level!) operating system, well... Darwin's law :) Also "karma" law I suppose.

    One of the reasons could be that Yahoo uses and advertises FreeBSD since they started.

    I know at least 1 giant company started using FreeBSD because of Yahoo. "It can handle entire yahoo userbase" is really a huge "selling" point.

    Large portion of FreeBSD and Opensource respect from industry (and end users) came from Yahoo.

    When people questioned seriousness of that OS, you could (and still) say "Yahoo runs on it". Conversation is over. :)

    I have no idea why Google is "good guy" and Yahoo gets amazing misinformed comments on each story. They even called Yahoo "wannabe" when they advertised (existing for years) http://search.yahoo.com/

    (robots.txt exclusion, it exists at least since 1999 if you look to archive.org)

    People, live with it. There are BILLIONS of text messages exchanged and there are hundreds of thousands of Agile Messenger "subscribers".

    Real alerting thing is, there is no mention of "Jabber" (XMPP) in the article. No word at http://www.jabber.com/ or http://www.jabber.org/ too.

    We are speaking about huge GSM companies here. One must start a petition, send some "people" to these companies IMMEDIATELY.

    FYI, XMPP is the _official_ protocol of Internet 2. http://www.internet2.edu/

    Enough with "I am so cool, who uses cell phone" attitude.

    Companies like "Tipic" http://www.tipic.com/ has extensions to compress the standard XMPP protocol.

    If you look for propetioary protocol over GPRS, you sure look for trouble. Even the J2ME stack on some phones creates problem with UDP etc instant messaging.

    I am using Mac G5 1600 for 3 years and not following x86 scene but...

    How come Intel is no more monopoly? I see nothing like 50% 50% share like Coke and Pepsi.

    Using net since '94 and various BBSes before, I have never,ever heard a "processor can't talk to other" thing like that. As a foreigner, I can't express myself on this matter even.

    The TCP/IP'es idea is to allow various architectures talk to each other. Gee, I remember HiTNET (Based in .tr, like your Fido) did not allow turkish characters because there were Commodore 64 users around accessing it.

    If you have a Symbian series 60/80/UIQ, there is "Psiloc extended profiles (Pro)" which changes your phone profile based on time etc.

    More interestingly, there is (excellent) innovation by them, named "Where I am" which integrates to this product or used stand-alone

    It reads the specific "cell information" and switches to profiles, gives messages, do stuff (can even turn off phone!) based on that.

    Motorola and Carnagie has no access to these pages I assume ;)

    As an end user used Slashdot Linux for 1 year, it always amazes me that people "love" OS X yet they don't use WindowMaker or AfterStep which are similar desktop implementations carrying "openstep" mark.

    Less users, less bug reports, feedback and lack of enthusiasm for people actually work on these sleek and modern desktop window managers.

    (Gnome users: WindowMaker is _compatible_with Gnome although you live "foot instead of start menu" experience when you use gnome/kde)

    As licensed owner of Omniweb (modified webkit), I wait for the 5.5 beta and give it a break until it ships.

    So I use the "generic" and "widely supported" Apple Safari not to mess with Firefox incompatabilities and the fact that it is NOT a native OS X program.

    This is the exact reason why I "flamed" the Gecko-only purpose of the report.

    Thanks for the link though. BTW, it doesn't work with that nightly too I heard.

    I don't see why Adobe one must be sucky. As far as I know, it is a more complete implementation than others.

    Also I see only Adobe tries to support SVG in commercial level.

    If it sucks because "it is Adobe" and/or "not open source", I am not in that game.

    If Apple does SVG plugin as they did PDF plugin (10.4.x), I will do just the same, install a better professionally coded plugin over it. Just like I use Luratech Jpeg 2000, Adobe PDF plugin etc.

    Nobody will install Firefox just because their functioning SVG Plugin did not display them for some reason.

    Note that non displayed SVG costed me
    1)Needless re-download of software I already have (svg plugin)
    2)Very needly check of permissions (Adobe and Macromedia has their own permission universe)
    3)Needless re launch of my browsers (for already existing plugin to init)

    So excuse me when I name it Gecko fascism.

    BTW- SVG goes nowhere being toy of purist geeks. As an ordinary user which uses the thing coming with OS (until omniweb updates), I will file a bug report to Adobe about this. This is how to help SVG.

    It _is_ broken, Safari with latest SVG plugin from Adobe does not show it. As well as Opera latest on OS X.

    I am _not_ installing Firefox to view their graphs. I always supported Camino for OS X and still do but this kind of "gecko fascism" does not help anything.

    Notice that I got SVG plugin installed for ages, Safari didn't display the graphs. Is it because I am not using "a browser with CSS"? Well, nevermind really...

    This is the thing why I and others have negative views against firefox, svg and even .ogg. Rootless promotion of this kind...

    Nothing so reliable these days.

    There were lots of stories,comments about "how evil it is if Microsoft breaks RSS" and now Apple actually breaks it, nothing can be said bad about it because it is "Apple".

    "iLife" is not some shareware authors $10 shareware, it is one of the most successful multimedia suites ever.

    If it breaks RSS somehow and we start to get "different RSS" everywhere, we will have a problem. It will also give Microsoft the perfect excuse.

    It will be kind of worse since Apple switched to x86 too.

    Remember G3 and G4 and even G5 can/could be alternative to x86. Imagine if Apple stayed on PPC and IBM and/or Motorola ships another Altivec like invention ahead of its time and makes all x86 looks backwards.

    Now it is just x86 out there. Of course you can buy a PowerPC workstation (a real one, like IBM one) but no more home competititon.

    I understand what you mean. I (and some rare powerpc defenders) were being blamed for zealotry when we panic about Mactel announcement and this was one of the first things I am afraid from Intel switch, the needless (Really!) compatibility stuff back to 8086 even.

    If they keep this attitude, Mactel won't be that bad. I mean Mactel as a replace for G5 workstations, not "imac" or "Powerbook" line.

    As using "Mactel switch defender" people's words, Apple completely made it software based to emulate 68k chips when PowerPC switch has been announced. Nobody died or something and I believe you can still use 68k stuff on PPC macs (not Intel).

    _IF_ they keep this attitude in prosumer line of CPUs, half of my reasons calling Intel move a step to backwards will be gone.

    Well, PPC is still a great cpu family and Apple used worst models ;)

    He is important on popular media (ZDNet) and he is taken serious by non geek computer users, that is a huge power.

    I admit he explains the stuff very easy but especially his continuous realplayer bitching made me anxious. It was "half true", "half right" and MS Windows Media player came with "GUID" ON while Realplayer came with GUID OFF by default.

    (not speaking about current sw after even dumbest user learned what spyware is)

    It has been discussed at Tidbits a while ago that Clamav does NOT check for OS X spesific viruses (there are none), Malware (Oh that exists, check MS Office Trial installer on gnutella) or OS 9 viruses (they exist)

    It is an excellent program to transform a Mac (g3 even!) to a PC virus scanning dedicated machine IMHO.

    I can understand his feelings. Even being a PC convert (2003) and innocently asking if there are spyware for mac on any platform including usenet, you get flamed. You get flamed to a point that you think if you were a spyware developer, MAC IS THE PERFECT TARGET. There are (always flamed) Symantec Firewall, Intego Firewall (netbarrier) on Mac OS X for Application filtering firewalls. There is "little snitch" as a program to check what opens outgoing connection. Notice for spyware, IP/Port filtering firewall built in is irrelevant.

    If you combine macupdate/versiontracker total downloads of 3 programs, you will understand what I mean.

    Also check that tiny url of google cache, if he is reading and he is a one could dare to make it story, I wish he check too.

    I can't remember how many posters on usenet including ones actually code parts of OS X flamed when I kept saying there were spyware on OS X and there will be.

    Also as they got flamed for finding a huge finder vulnerability, I don't think Intego will "share" their findings that easy. Last time I checked, they were "snake oil" selling people.
