    I just did you one better and did it from Windows 3.1, on dialup, using Netscape Comunicator, on a Pentium 75MHz Toshiba Satellite Pro CDS100.

    That's not exactly true. Before everyone went to 1920x1080 in the 2000s, we had 2048x1536, and that was the 90s.

    What, did you forget that pretty much everything you're doing RIGHT NOW is exactly the same stuff you were doing back on Windows 95/98? Playing games, surfing the web, watching videos (not streamed, usually from VCD or DVD) and maybe getting some work done.

    Nothing has changed. People just got shitty at programming.

    MenuetOS shows this off quite well. It does everything. Even runs Quake. Full GUI, supports all kinds of shit.

    1.4 Megabytes.

    Most touchscreen POS systems from ELO and other similar companies.

    They're on 386/486 hardware. Go look at your Taco Bell or Del Taco or non-McCafe McDonalds systems.

    Intel was still selling embedded 386 and 486 processors until 2007. POS terminals don't require jack shit for power. They're all over the place.

    I'll stick with real Doom 2. Latest Zandronum mod - Complex Doom Invasion. Pretty fucking slick.

    You're doing it wrong. You can run D3 maxed the fuck out on a P4, 1GB RAM, and a midrange 512MB GeForce 5 or 6.

    It's more criminally negligent to utilize general-purpose stuff for specialized medical operations.

    This is why we have application-specific hardware.

    You don't need a computer to run a camera. To boot, a single-purpose medical device shouldn't need some massively complex operating system PLUS anti-virus.

  17. Whatever happened to a simple audio log? We've got recorders that encode directly to MP3. Just make the recording and copy it into patient files after the end of procedure.

    This 'do everything with a computer' mentality is exactly why we have these nonsensical issues happening in the first place.

    An even better idea would be to quit relying upon technology, because it won't always be there for you, as quite handily proven in this case.

    If you, as a doctor, need a computer to perform a task that did not originally require one, you're failing the basic concepts of medicine.

    Quite often, clicking on a headline with NO POSTS just brings you to the front page of slashdot.

    In fact, oh, look, hovering over one story right now with NO POSTS shows the URL link at the bottom to be THE FRONT PAGE OF SLASHDOT.

    In fact, right now, clicking any link in the Firehose just expands the story, and never takes you into the actual submission itself.

    Please read and understand your own code base before being silly like that again. I've been here way longer than you and know every change about this site (including having a ripped copy of the BETA slashcode. I know all this site's shitty issues.)

    You'd actually look smart if you had a copy of slashcode in front of you and knew about its behaviors like I do.
