Anybody with half a fucking brain could tel you the second you step outside of your home, cameras are every fucking where, from the street lamps to traffic lights to the dashboard camera of that cop in the unmarked crown vic stalking your ass to the register at the gas station to the ATMs in banks.
Therefore, I already know cameras are on me in one form or another, and I act accordingly.
THERE IS NO EXPECTATION OF PRIVACY IN PUBLIC - REPEAT AFTER ME.
At least she has the time to keep tabs on the public servants like a GOOD EMPLOYER, while you sit around and gripe on slashdot.
Judging from your UID I'd say you're probably too young to realize that it's your goddamned responsibility as a Taxpayer (and thus an employer of the public servants whom your tax dollars pay) to make sure the people you employ are doing their jobs properly and that proper tabs are kept on them.
Them arresting her is absolute proof of their failing to perform their job properly, and is also proof of their absolute lack of understanding of the law.
"Is it in the public's interest for individual officers to have their names, pictures, addresses and photographs of their houses published to the world?"
Yes, it is. Because COPS ARE PUBLIC FUCKING SERVANTS. Therefore, ANYTHING THEY DO IS OF INTEREST TO THE PUBLIC.
As someone who has a relative working as a state trooper - BULLSHIT. You sign up for the job KNOWING THE RISKS TO YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY. The moment you make an arrest and the media puts your face on TV, you've just made yourself a potential target. Hell the moment you piss off the wrong person you've just made yourself a target, media exposure or not.
Because our money pays for their work - we are their employer and as their employer we should have every right to monitor them to ensure they do the job we pay them to do, and to ensure they perform that job PROPERLY. Police are PUBLIC SERVANTS - they are not entitled to the level of privacy a normal citizen would expect, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOW A PUBLIC FIGURE. This means they are absolutely fair game for newspapers and independent published papers.
And when it's a matter of public record which is in the public domain - they have no reasonable expectation of privacy of that information, which includes court records available through a simple FOIA request.
Thank you for beating me to this, I was at work. I had part of my childhood living on a ranch, and grazing rights DO NOT make a place private property, by any means.
Yet another person that has never dealt with the BLM talking out of their ass. That property is marked on all public maps as public property, that means that people can walk all over that land without needing to pay a goddamned dime. The *ONLY* way such public property could be considered private would be if the Commander-in-Chief decided to camp there, and that is only by virtue of the fact that the SS would immediately cordon off that whole area for the President's safety, and even then it's back to public usage the moment the President is gone.
I've dealt with the BLM for almost two decades. I know exactly what's talked about, as I even discussed this with the BLM about making an area private - only if I purchased it lock stock and key from the government would it be considered and marked as private property on the map.
On a BLM map, public spaces are marked in Yellow, private spaces are marked in white, and no-go zones are marked in red, such as fire zones and military training areas.
The entirety of Black Rock Desert is public property. Usually I avoid Burning Man and go for the ARLISS and XPRS rocketry fests in the middle of September.
Yes, I'm there QUITE OFTEN. Whomever marked me as troll is a total tool.
"BM is held on property that is leased for the event."
NO IT IS NOT. THE BLACK ROCK DESERT IS PUBLIC LAND AND THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT DOES NOT LEASE OUT PARCELS FOR TEMPORARY USAGE, ONLY PERMITS TO HOLD AN EVENT AT SUCH DESIGNATED LOCATION.
You don't need to be a fucking lawyer to know that one, you just need to have the skills to know how to read a fucking map and know which government agency to call/check with.
The Bureau of Land Management would absolutely disagree with you. The Black Rock Desert is public property, through and through. The reason for the hefty fee is for the PERMITS for such an event.
And I just spent a week going out to various deserts to do meteorite hunting and to watch the Perseids, the Mojave and Black Rock deserts were my first places to go hunting, so I already know the area of which you talk about, as I had to go get a permit for my haul from that desert area from the Bureau of Land Management.
Every EMT I've seen drives around while talking on their damned cellphone. I guess it's to alleviate the boredom of not doing anything until somebody gets hurt. It's still fucking annoying and I've been rear-ended by an absent-minded EMT on their fucking cell phone.
Any half-competent HAM can build a receiver from a penny and a couple of other things in about ten seconds. Building a transmitter doesn't take much time either, and analog stuff like tubes are pretty much hardened against EMP.
Even building the power for the transmitter is trivial. Make an earth-ground battery for a decent 500 milliwatts of transmitting power from about two square feet of wet soil and some lead and copper plates. That's enough power for about 40 miles ground level, and about 60 miles with the transmitter a mile above sea level. Long-range comms is trivial to get up and running.
"He obviously doesn't remember the NES pads, or is confusing them with the SNES pads, because those little square brick NES pads were the definition of cramped hands."
And you obviously don't remember the NES Advantage pad, which had that shape before the Genesis EVER existed.
Let me give you a little hint - you can FUCKING TELL they're undercover by counting the number of antennae on the car.
Anyone with half a brain can spot an undercover cop. It's not that hard.
ATi, like nVidia, uses a universal driver architecture - the support should be included NATIVELY.
"That's what video cards are: efficient implementations of DirectX."
Huh, I didn't know you could turn electrical 0s and 1s into a piece of silicon and PCB.

Tell me - How is a *PUBLIC* record a *PRIVATE* matter?
Those two words are almost 100% mutually exclusive of each other.
"Being inciteful is not a crime."
Bullshit - Incite to riot is a crime.
"She should be forcibly moved to a high-crime area and forced to fend for herself."
Ah, how ignorant you are of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. You WERE born yesterday, I can tell.

"They retain their arrest powers even when off duty -- in truth, they are never off the job. "
Any reasonable citizen of this country has those same arrest powers - Citizen's Arrest.
"Why is it OK when its a police officer?"
Because our money pays for their work - we are their employer and as their employer we should have every right to monitor them to ensure they do the job we pay them to do, and to ensure they perform that job PROPERLY. I will just point you to my above post and tell you to STFU, you spineless nameless faceless whore!

Read "Sneaky Uses for Everyday Things" and you'll be taught how to build a penny radio receiver. I did that in the fifth grade for science fair.

Oh, I'm sorry, please forgive me for having owned so many fucking peripherals that I can't keep track of the names of them all.
Fucking nitpicking cocksucking cowardly bastard.
"But if I had a device that could be triggered to zap any "whacker" over his radio, the airwaves would be a much quieter, better, place."
If I had a device to keep you off your fucking cell phone while driving, the roads would be a safer place, fuck you very much.
Yea, so tell me, Mr. anonymous dumbass, what're you going to do when EMPs wipe out all 'digital' capability, hmmm?
You're a fucking moron.
"Many of us thought that we would never see another 140 watt processor (as the Phenom 9950 was), but unfortunately those days are back."
Guess what? In about 15 years, due to the law of diminishing returns we'll be stuck with 200 watt processors for any intensive task like gaming.
What's the latest and greatest processor on a video card draw? Almost 160 watts for my 9800GTX+.

I assume your hard disk counts as ethereal media, then?
Too easy.
