Opera has a lot going for it in the speed department. But part of that is because you're basically using an Opera proxy. Everything you do on the internet gets routed through them.
For all the "privacy" concerns about Chrome having auto-suggest for search, Opera has some very legitimate privacy concerns.
Firefox uses Google by default for search and suggestion.
IE uses Bing.
I trust Google infinitely more than I trust Microsoft. And if you're really paranoid, then run Iron, which is a privacy-freak version of Chromium. But if that isn't enough, Google added tons of privacy features into Chrome/Chromium starting with version 5.
If I recall, it was assumed that merely having a personal email account was a means to skirt public disclosure requirements, but after multiple ethics investigations, they didn't find anything.
So was there proof she was doing "sekrit" business in her personal email account or not?
I've used Ghost and Clonezilla to make replacement bootable hard drives just fine. I can't imagine Acronis really fails in this regard, or it wouldn't be taken seriously.
It is easier to push updates to Linux boxes, except those updates aren't just a small smattering of MS updates, but rather for every application installed on the box.
There are some nice virtues to Microsoft's myriad of enterprise tools. But suggesting that Windows boxes are easier to manage for software updates is not one of them.
Then again, one can also argue that instead of fucking with group policy and MS exploit patches, you could just run Linux and run secure boxes that are far easier to secure in the first place.
That is part of the problem, that you can make so much more money in the private sector that our economy is often run by failed businessmen. Brilliant.
However Kerry and Romney are both worth over 500 million as examples touching on both parties.
Are you suggesting that Democrats didn't go nuts with Bush hate, or that Republicans didn't go nuts with Clinton hate?
It isn't new.
I'm generally of the opinion that if you truly believe the other party is completely evil, and your party is perfect, you're delusional. Both parties are largely filled with corrupt politicians who want to line their pockets, and cater to special interest groups. Both parties overspend and pass mammoth bills filled with crazy riders. Both parties have compromised personal liberty to appease knee-jerk reactions. Both parties have helped build a larger federal government.
They flip-flop on policy so much, it is hard to keep track. For instance, when McCain proposed a cap-and-trade system, every Republican loved it, and every Democrat hated it. When Pelosi proposed a cap-and-trade system, ever Republican hated it, and every Democrat loved it. Which is it?
When McCain was pushing for oil drilling, Pelosi threatened to drill in people's heads because it was such a stupid idea. When Obama suggested oil drilling, Pelosi said it was a great idea.
Look at major players in the Liberal/Democrat party like Biden and Reid. Both pushed for warrantless wiretapping very early, even though it is supposedly against the common Democrat platform. Biden was pushing for it after Oklahoma City, and bragged about it during the debates.
Look at Reid's Wikipedia page. It sure reads like a Conservative platform on many levels. And yet he is one of the highest ranking Liberals. The truth is both parties are far more similar than anyone wants to admit.
You're suggesting that people only pretend to like things that are popular. How did they get popular to begin with?
And why doesn't everyone here pretend to like Twilight? It's genre fiction and insanely popular. Maybe the Slashdot crowd likes XKCD because it is great, and they hate Twilight because it is crap.
A video game costs $60. Avatar tickets cost me $15 a pop. Even assuming a standar movie ticket is only $10, a video game is more expensive. So for the same money, more people are seeing movies. I'll give you that. But if I buy one copy of Mario Party and invite my friends over to play, then multiple people are playing on the one purchase.
But you often watch a 2 hour movie onec, and you're done. Video games you spend more time with. Video games are often played multi-player, or online. You aren't supposed to talk during movies, so one could argue that video games are a more social experience.
For the dollars, I'd contend that video games consume more of our time and conscience. Furthermore, I think they have subsumed a larger piece of the cultural zeitgeist. My daughter is 4 and doesn't own a video game console yet, but she knows who Mario is.
I'm glad that Shuttleworth truly cares about usability and the desktop experience. Ubuntu has made some great strides and raised the visibility of Linux on the whole. I want Ubuntu to succeed because it carries Linux with it on its back.
That being said, I loathe Gnome and I loathe Ubuntu. Kubuntu's broken packages have really hurt the image of KDE. Ubuntu's packages on the whole tend to be broken. Can they manage one single release without serious issues?
I've told my bosses before, and I'll say it again, I don't trust Ubuntu in the enterprise because Canonical is a small shop trying to manage the largest package repositories they can, drive new features, and live on the bleeding edge at the same time. I applaud their goals, but they're too small to pull it off.
I won't say Red Hat and Novell are without bugs, but I trust Red Hat/Fedora/SLES/openSUSE packages a lot more. If Ubuntu wants to be the face of Linux, I wish it were a better face. Right now Ubuntu continues to make Linux look bad.
Red Hat is the defact standard in many enterprise environments. Novell is having trouble finding a niche. What if Novell brought its expertise and engineering team and bought out Canonical? Shuttleworth is great at landing deals and helping to push desktop innovation. Novell is also pushing innovation, but much better at managing solid releases. (Novell is pushing heavy development in OpenOffice, Evolution, they invented Compiz, Openxchange, Moonlight, Samba, etc).
Avatar's effects were all done on Linux. I believe WETA uses Linux exclusively for effects.
If Creative Suite moved over, a lot of audio/video/effects professionals would move to Linux. I read an article about how sound engineers are moving over to Linux because of the RT kernel.
Nokia owns Qt and is keeping it open, so I'll give them that. But they rigorously enforce a bunch of software patents and fought to keep open codec standards out of HTML5.
She's 4 and skinny. And in Japan where obesity is very low, they believe in eating all the carbs you want so long as you avoid sugar. It seems to work pretty well.
There is evidence to suggest we overload on carbs, but that doesn't mean skinny 4-year old girls need to avoid bread at all costs.
The government owns and is ultimately responsible for several major corporations now. Obama was calling for the heads of specific CEOs.
Don't get me wrong, those companies did run themsleves into the ground. But when the government owns and controls corporations, that is an increase in government control.

But keep wearing that tin-foil hat.
The next version of Firefox with have plugins in a seperate process. The rest of the project is still going to take some more time.

I agree.
This is one of the rare intelligent AC posts. Too bad you posted AC and many people will miss it.

This is a smart move on their part, but I just have a really bad feeling about this.
I have zero trust when it comes to Symantec.

Just maybe.

Or try a much better KDE distro like openSUSE, Fedora, Sabayon, Arch, Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, etc.

Didn't Halo 3's launch weekend generate more revenue than the biggest Hollywood opening weekend of all time?
Video Games are just as influential and big as the movie indudstry.
The comics are often low-brow humor. The posts are often very high-brow diatribes. I love both and the contrast they portray. But to each their own.
Kudos to them, but sadly this was a popularity contest where the likes of Justin Bieber and such were receiving votes.
I'd rather a wide-range, rational panel try to offer their opinions rather than open up a massive internet vote.
