  1. AOHell on Opposition to AOL's 'Email Tax' Growing · · Score: 1

I can see where AO-hizzy is coming from, but here's why: Like most of you here (that actually work), you probably do something regarding the Internet. The company I work for provides network access for Wholesale Dialup ISPs. It costs money (you know...economic energy...believe it or not) to pay for bandwidth that spammers waste sending their emails that for some ungodly reason, morons still open and click the links in them. It costs money to pay for the software filters that are in place to remove unwanted spam. It costs money to pay technicians/engineers to maintain the servers that filter spam. It costs money for the servers that filter spam. Am I making a point yet? Now, do I agree that AOL is part of the Evil Empire? Yes. $21+ per month for sub-par dialup internet access is bullshit, no matter how you look at it. However, bulk mailers should be helping to foot the bill of extra bandwidth, extra hardware to handle that bulk mail, etc etc. I don't feel bad for them. What you really need to start keeping your eye on is the system of the Tiered Internet that Ma Bell, Verizon & Comcast are trying to create. AOL is trying to cover the costs of bandwidth waste...these greedy ass companies are trying to privatize YOUR internet and make things unavailable unless you pay more.

I saw the first beta through my company (has an MSDN subscription) and this version LOOKS alot better, but still hogs a ton of memory. At present time, its using 104MB of ram, 79MB of pagefile space. The only thing I have loaded is this wonderful site: slashdot.org. Firefox is using just 24.8MB of memory. Looks like I'm uninstalling already. The UI is pretty, though.

And if the Democrats are the Treason Party...what does that make the republicans and their spying on america? The Paranoid Party? The Put Fear Into The People to Win Elections Party? I'm going to have to agree with this. Here's the thing: I'm an American and I would not want to live anywhere else in the world. That being said... How do you democratic people know that your way is the best way? I'm not saying that Communism is the way to go, but at least no one goes hungry there. Yeah, I'm sure its boring as hell and you cannot say what you want to when you want to...but hell...ask a homeless person where he'd rather live: In a home or on the streets? Also, if the Chinese hated their way of life so much...why don't they just...well...revolt? There are over a billion people in that country and I'm sure that they all don't work for the chinese army. So, take your pretentious views on China and shove 'em. How do you know you are better off than they are?

I've said this a million times to friends: If their operating system was priced reasonably - somewhere in the 50 - 60 US dollar range, I'd purchase it. After all, you get what you pay for and their swiss cheese operating systems isn't worth more than that until service pack 14.
