Actually Ive seen Linux available in quite a few stores near where I live (Norfolk, England). The PC World near me has actually got quite a few distros available, arbeit some of them out of date (they were still selling SuSE 6.1 when I last checked.. ucky), but recently they were heavilly promoting Corel. Also I've seen Game and such sell Mandrake and RedHat.
But I do agree with you about most not knowing what a computer is.. the PC World near me almost takes an active stance against employing computer students...
still, I've found it hard to beat www.linuxemporium.co.uk for all my needs:)
I got my first computer in 1984.. sinclair spectrum, with the rubber grey keys.. i was only coming up to 5yrs at the time, and my first game : i think it was hungry horace.. then spectrum + 48k, specrum +2a, amiga, and so on:)
I still have most of these in gwo, and am looking to complete my collection of sinclar hardware and peripherals..
I had one of those microswitched competition pro (sp) joysticks via the kempston interface. The shaft itself never broke like the C64 joysticks.. (it was basically a metal rod with a ball at the end:) but the amount of times we had to superglue the casing around it again was unbelievable..
Most car radios have capability to recieve such signals, and most have it enabled by default. (most people want more 'ready' features, right?).
However, it is quite possible to turn it off.
If you still want to listen to traffic announcements, if you get an 'unwanted' broadcast you can revert back to the previous station you were listening to by pressing a button.
Personally, I quite like this option. not only does it make tuning radios a heck of a lot easier, and when driving in London it can make the journey a heck of a lot easier.
I get motion sickness from the games that don't bob, like wolf3d and catabyss (anyone remember that one?). I can't play them for more than 5 minutes without feeling as if I'm ready to spew.
Yet, when I play quake, Unreal, Halflife, Forsaken or any other 3d game like that I'm just fine...
I always thought that was kinda strange.. I think its the way they don't bob or something.

Re Getting Sound
/etc
Assuming you've got SuSE 6.1 or newer (heck, it might even work with the older stuff), getting a soundblaster PCI 128 to work is *very* easy.
Su to root, and cd to
edit conf.modules, and there should be a section pertaining to sound, with commented out soundcard modules list a little down from the top...
uncomment out the appropriate card the lines for the es1371.o -- it will be commented as sb/pci 64/128 when you reach it.
exit, and you can usually count on sound working right after that (it did on my system anyway).
Just a note, the soundcard has no hardware support for midi iirc so you may have to find a different prog for that.
Hope this helps.

Its optional :)

I'm kind of the opposite here.

Actually, _both_ are correct.
Only, viruses is more commonly used in the States while virii is more common in Europe.
I use Virii personally. I despise using the 'es' suffix on a word that ends with s. Icky.

It may be suprising, but in my class of 26+ students, there are only 2 geeks... Me, and one male, already taken *sigh*
Forget looking for the appropriate geek girl... where are all the geek men hiding?!?
