Both have trade-offs though I have found that most of them are based on the CATV service not the CM.
On the internet access side I have found RCN to be quite superior for the following reasons:
1. I get much higher speeds on RCN than Time Warner allows. TW is capped at about 1.5Mbit down and 20kbps up. I can get multiple 300KB/s downloads at the same time, with bursts of up to 4Mbit from internal RCN machines. My uploads appear to be capped at 50KB/s which is nice and heady for serving files.
2. RCN provides static IP rather than changing dhcp. This makes it much easier to host a site.
There are tradeoffs: RCN does not offer Digital Cable, RCN does not always use DOCSIS equipment (my modem is an old Hybrid), RCN's backbone is still promarily DS3 though they do appear to be ramping up to OC-3.
It appears that HavenCo has pretty much taken over most of the operations of the Government of Sealand. This reminds me a lot of the ideas in Shadowrun where corporations demand extraterritoriality. While it seems unlikely to happen within most countries, do you see the creation of "Island Havens", man-made islands out beyond established territorial limits as the way many corporations will in the future use international law to escape the restrictions they currently face? Do you see corporations taking over/buying out smaller countries in order to create corporate friendly governments?
Finally some respect for Japanimation.

Essential Anime

While geeks (otaku) have always had a greater appreciation for the quality and style that typifies Anime, it is nice to see that recognition come out. I believe that Anime is one of the most underappreciated artforms around today. This is even more true as a result of the "bastardization" that often takes place when repackaging it for the US (DBZ, Sailor Moon, etc.) It is nice to see real anime get a mention and a chance to shine. Keep mentioning anime every few weeks here on Slashdot to keep it going.
In a Quantum universe causality does not mean a whole lot. If my grandfather invents something and I inherit his plans, and the I go back in time (using a CTC) and give him the information before he invents where did it come from. It is information out of nothing. Many worlds... Many worlds...
Actually you are off in your interpretation of the Defense/offense dilemma. 1. You cannot launch additional missiles because A: In a nuclear war you would already have launched them all. B: The number of warheads is fixed.
The problem actually comes from the ease in creating systems to defeat the SDI mechanisms. Mylar balloons, aluminum foil, and all sorts of metal garbage can be released during MIRV launch creating thousands of likely target. No one has yet developed a targert descrimination program that is good enough to target actually warheads (under 5000) with dummy warheads (tens of 1000s). >As well you could use criuse missles which are not suceptible to space based defenses. ??? ICBMs are cruise missiles - Inter-continental ballistic _ missiles. If you mean short range missiles like the Tomahawk you run into a couple of problems: range, and ease of interception. It is much easier to hit a missile flying through the atmosphere at Mach 1 than space based missiles traveling at Mach 10.
The USPS is a fully chartered corporation. Many Government Agencies are actually chartered as corporations. Take for example the IRS, a nice "private" corporation, chartered in Maryland.
Note that pure water does NOT fall out of the clouds. Water only falls from the clouds when it condenses around another particle/molecule which means by definition it is not pure.
I remember hearing once about a group of scientists tried to get pure water by boiling it over and over. They ended up getting this really weird liquid that had such great attraction they could start pouring it from one cup to another and it would continue to pour even after setting both cups down. They later realized that the repeated boiling process had melted some of the glass from the container into the liquid.
Actually, there are regularly scheduled declassifcations of classified information. That is how some of the footage used in the documentaries of the nuclear weapons program got used. It was declassified on schedule and then requested by the producers. Another example is the information that will be released soon on the Kennedy Assasination.
How much information/facts/memories/etc. can a brain store? Is there a limit to the amount of input a brain can absorb? Can a brain simply forget unused data and replace it with new data like rolling buffer? Or does the brain simply become desensitized until it enters a fugue like stasis with no more capacity to fill?
Do not forget credit cards, which have also gone Titanium!

It cannot be free if there is a price to pay. Any price. I know it is being nit picky, but the world is in the details.
