that analogy would hold true if there were thirty bots adding themselves to your buddy list a day, but there aren't. yet, at least.

Someone missed the ethics boat on this one.

on THIS one? where have you been for the past three years? :P corporations in general are pretty unethical, in this country especially.

I'd probably be whining if it weren't free, blatantly useless, and unremovable - but that's not the case. I can easily remove them, and it's a free service. I'm actually surprised they're allowing it to be removed with the amount of advertising possibilities that could have came along with it.

I would love to if anyone actually used it. It was a bit overhyped, but it's still a great product.

why are we only seeing negative reviews on slashdot? I saw it, I'm an avid fan of the books and the radio show, and I absolutely loved it. It seems to me that many here WANT to hate it.

  7. ripple effect? on Michigan Diagnostic Software Case Big Win for GPL · · Score: 0, Redundant

We have to wonder though - what will this do for the local enconomy? I'm in the Detroit metro area, and EVERYONE here has at least three people in their family that work for one of the big three. Of course it's not going to change daily life as we know it, it's not THAT big of a decision as cases go, but will we see a ripple effect?

  8. Target and user verification on Credit card signatures: Useless? · · Score: 1

When I went through orientation at Target (I used to work there, but I was usually in the backroom doing stocking) I discovered that it's not just the cashier doing the identification checking. Most Target stores are outfitted with an advanced security system that allows you to verify an ID/Signature from a secluded room in the back. They can actually zoom in and see the text on your driver's liscense if need be. Of course, this doesn't do much good if the cashier never checks for an ID in the first place, but it's just something else to think about. When you're a consumer at some of the larger chains, more people are watching you than you might think.
