To be fair to the submitter, though, I understand the concern that hand-torn paper is easy to piece together

Yes, but who hasn't heard of shredders? And for that matter, who doesn't know that fire destroys paper?

Why do so many Gentoo users get this confused.

Gentoo does not host the packages that you download. They host the ebuilds and the ebuilds tell portage where to download the packages from.

So, you downloaded it directly from mozilla. Check the ebuild yourself if you don't believe me.

Additionally, they don't have mains flicker. When I went to the US the flicker from flourescent tubes drove me insane (in the UK they flicker at 50Hz, what is it in the states?).

    60Hz

    And it's spelled fluorescent :P

Well, I don't know about other geeks, but that site would get my name, Given M. Sur, (which isn't my real name BTW), and my address (they would get the real one -- since I was actually expecting something from them).

My phone number would be off by a few digits, like instead of 555-3829 I might type 555-4950.

They would only get the password I use for useless sites, and the only password hint they would get is the same one I use everywhere "NOFUCKINGHINTNEEDED"

Perhaps I'm just smarter and/or more paranoid than the average geek, or perhaps you just don't give geeks enough credit.

I have the Register to thank for this as their story pages are unreadable with Flash enabled due to haveing THREE flaming animations running at a time.

Adblock. I hardly ever see any ads anymore, animated or still. And the few that I do see are gone within seconds of me visiting the page (I remove them immediately -- and they never return)

This looks like it will be a really useful resource. Are there any other examples of the best way to do this? For other browsers.

"Google uses a special prefetching feature in Firefox and Mozilla web browsers to provide this functionality, so results prefetching is not available in Internet Explorer or other web browsers."

Now, is it really easier to post a question and wait for an answer than to just read the article?

Point taken, some physical items have artificial supply limitations as well, I had not thought of that when making my first post. However, the guy is still insane ;)

Not a bad example, but not great. Stamp collecting and baseball cards still require physical resources to produce. Virtual swords only require changing one line in a configuration file to produce any desired amount.

  11. Re:Before we all claim he's nuts... on Gamer Slain Over Virtual Property Dispute · · Score: 1

There's a huge difference between physical property and virtual property.

Physical property has a real limit on the supply, thus value is determined by supply and demand.

With property in video games, the limit of supply is faked, and is subject to change at the game designer's whims. There is no real value in such a product, only percieved value.

Yet another freaking window manager for Linux. Why not improve on the existing ones instead of trying to fill bogus niches.

First of all, this is an update. So, they did improve on an existing one.

Second, different people have different needs/preferences for WMs, hence the wide variety. IMHO the variety is a strength not a weakness.
