  3. Re:So how well does it REALLY work now? on An Overview Of PNG; Mozilla M17 (Updated) · · Score: 1

Well, I started using Mozilla mostly 'cuz Nescape 4.72 gives me bus errors on start up (it doesn't start nomore from a user other than root) and it looks cool, works fairly fast and renders pages better than 4.72.

On the other side.. Like Netscape Mozilla has a habit of crashing every now and then, and the most annoying bug (??) in the browser is that it doesn't remember where you were on a page when you clicked a link, so when you go back, it's on the top again (try it with freshmeat, it's annoying). I hope they fix that soon! :)

  8. Nice idea, bad implementation on Interview With The Creator of Napster on ZDnet · · Score: 2

The great thing behind napster is the whole idea, too bad that the implementation is a disaster. I already read complaints about the 'x' not exitting the program, and the lack of an stop button. But the most annoying thing of napster is the fact that you cannot resume a file. When your link hickups you loose connection (protocol problem?) and you can forget the last 5% you had left to complete. $olid

Of course we need games for Linux.

I think it's comparable to the battle between the different Video standards. Philips produced Video-2000 which was far more superior than VHS, but Philips didn't allow porno being produced on Video2000, which meant the end of the standard.

Almost nobody admits that they bought a computer just for games, like almost nobody admits they bought a video for porno.

That's not the only moral. The other thing they try to say is that have professionals look at your GUI, 'cuz when you let your developers on the loose you can get something like this.

I worked for a GUI team in a rather large organisation and I found out that it's rather difficult to design a good gui. It takes several hours of talking to users of the future product.

To get some sort of standard they made a Styleguide. We (I'm a developer too) have that GUI handy whenever we need to make windows.

It's fun to see that M$ doesn't always follow their own styleguide (For instance, look at powerpoint, which is a complete UI disaster)

  15. Hmm.. on Microsoft Clarifies Linux Myths · · Score: 1

Funny how they say NT is more stable. Last time I tried to install NT, it gave me a blue screen during install. After a few weeks of trying to find out why it didn't work, I found out that my AHA7890 was not supported. This chip wasn't out when they first released NT, but it wasn't either when Linux 2.0 was released. But with 2.1.1XX (dunno the number) the Linuxcommunity fixed the problem, while NT still can't be installed without doing a lot of copying and freaking around. Haven't tried Win2K yet, and I'm not going to. The more M$ is spreading FUD the more confidence I have in Linux. Oh... I've got another anekdote too. Ever tried to install a Teles BRI 16.3 ISDN adaptor with NT? Took me about 1 hour on Linux (including the compiling of ISDN4Linux tools). On NT it took me a whole weekend (failed once, reinstall NT or else you will never succeed)
