    Yes, I think MOOCs are an interesting new educational paradigm. But if I'm going to spend time doing something at university level, then I'd like to get university-level trasnferable credit not just a certificate of completion. Otherwise its just another time-sucker like WoW.

    I would definitely agree that certifications + some dicking around with SQL and exchange would definitely help. Go for the latest versions because MS is going Cloud-everything and you will need to know cloud, whatever your future career in IT may be.

    A modern society would have plenty of warning if a supereruption were to happen again on that scale, and plenty of resources to mitigate the effects (though not all obviously). I'm not saying it wouldn't be disruptive, but it wouldn't push humanity to the brink of extinction.

    Its not testable at all. Its a prophecy set so far into the future that the modellers will likely be dead before 2050. There is no way to tell in any intervening period before then that the claim can be proven false.

    Its not science at all. Its a religious belief in the validity of mathematical models which cannot predict climate in the near term better than by chance.

    If this article had been on neowin and had praised Microsoft's new OS for breaking through on a gaming distribution platform after a lot of marketing effort from the distributor including an opening sales and had managed 2% share, Slashdotters would have been cackling and calling it hype.

    What the TFA is is hype and wishful thinking. Linux has an enormous long way to go before its even considered worth porting to as part of current game development.

    Its a start, but no more than that.

    Those of us who are old enough can remember lots of dawns in the IT industry - most of them false.
