I was really hoping it would have hardware decoding for H.265 too. I'm not sure what the other commenter is complaining about regarding 1080p video though - I've got an original Model B running OpenELEC and it handles 1080p just fine on account of the hardware support for H.264. It would struggle with other formats, I imagine, but other than HEVC what's in 1080p that's not H.264?
I don't play MMOs, so far there have been none that appeal to me.
Given how many MMOs fail these days perhaps doing something other than standard operating procedure would have given them a degree of competitive advantage.
I was amazed that they were asking £30 or more for a client and then expecting players to buy play time too. I could understand paying for time, but for the client too?
I'm not going to blow £30 on a game that got such mediocre reviews. If there had been a free trial I would have given it a shot and then perhaps bought some hours. Expecting me to pay a relatively large sum up front for something that's use will expire without further expenditure seems a little, uh, hopeful.
I'm sure someone else will have said it, but I reckon this is one of those cases of "it can't be measured, therefore it must have no value". Ubuntu has done amazing work getting Linux more visible and better established, that alone is worth a significant amount.
There may not be enough sun here in the UK to make solar panels that effective, but given the high population density and the tight layout of our cities, this kind of technology could be incredibly useful. If it can absorb noise it'd be great, if it can actually put the energy to use that'd be fantastic.
I disagree strongly. Loads of people I've spoken to don't understand what to use Wave for. Those I've worked on projects with who have used it for something real, rather than just a conversation, quickly grasp how useful it is for collaborative projects.
It shouldn't have been marketed as "for the public", at least not at first. Much like mobile phones gained traction in the corporate world, Wave could well have had a similar story, given the time and marketing.
This is precisely my opinion. What *is* all this Social Media stuff that gets bandied around about Wave? It's a collaboration tool and a damn good one at that!
Could you name some tools that can be used for what Wave does?
I'm serious - Wave is really useful for me and I'm struggling to find anything to replace it for collaborative projects.
Creating documents in it is precisely what I use it for. As a project tool it is brilliant and I have used it with other students to write group assignments as well as my own creative projects.
I love the big Steam sales - they lower many games to the range where I can afford to buy them. I think I paid £8 for Team Fortress 2 but as good as it is for £25 I would never have bought it. Between £5 - 10 I'm willing to buy nearly any game that I think seems good. For less than £4 I'll buy nearly anything.
I have bought a couple of games for the full price at release, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 being a notable example, but that title was of fantastic quality and has huge amounts of replayability value, something I cannot say of most games I encounter.
I pirated the game and enjoyed it. At times it got a bit frustrating but in general it was very good.
I like the idea of an amnesty like this, so much so that I've now stepped up and paid.
My sense of smell isn't underestimated - I have hyponosmia! No, really, I can hardly smell anything and the things I can smell vanish quickly (well, they're "tuned out").
It's quite odd, my sense of taste doesn't seem overly affected and sometimes I catch the odd whiff of something, but it vanishes in moments. It's almost as if my sense of smell has a very short attention span. In the same way that the human ear "tunes out" background noise, my nose "tunes out" smells into the background, even prominent ones last no longer than a very brief moment.
I wouldn't say I have true "anosmia", but generally it's easier to say "I pretty much can't smell anything" than to explain the fine details!
My father has been curious about the name too for many years as my mother seems to have the same thing. I didn't get it until more recent years, I think, or at least I only started noticing it in the last few years. Generally it doesn't cause me too many problems, it just means smells that I'd like to be able to keep smelling (such as my girlfriend's hair) don't stay. On the plus side, I live in a flat (or apartment if you prefer) with four other guys (at university) so it's not always a bad thing!
Slight problem.. Some of us, such as myself, have crippled senses of smell. Often I can't smell anything, or when I can, I can't identify what the smell corresponds to. For example I might smell liquorice and not be sure whether it's that or cinnamon. It's quite odd, but I'm used to it.
I'm using Flock with adblock and filtersetg on Ubuntu. The videos play just fine using my mplayer browser plugin, I haven't a clue what this "product registration" stuff you're on about is.
Equally, I didn't see a single ad, but that's nothing new (I 3 filtersetg).
Ah, yeah, this is what you get for trying to be funny. Why must people insist that because of my name I am a troll. Get over yourselves. Mod me down, it'd be a better use of your mod points than some of the unfunny trash you mod up..
It's worth considering the cost of memory stick pro duos when thinking about this.
It'd be cheaper to buy the games than attempt to carry around all the ISOs on memory sticks. I personally like ISOs as they allow me to try games before buying them (I also like that they're guaranteed to work perfectly if I buy them). I don't trust demos, after all, if you were marketing a game, would you release some of the best levels as a demo, or just any old levels?
A problem users might encounter in buying GTALCS for this exploit is the fact that the newer version of GTALCS that seems to be circulating now has had the exploit patched, preventing it from running. It would seem we now need a way of telling which version of GTALCS we've got.

I heartily agree with you.
It's like "I don't CARE which hardware manufacturer is your pimp!"
It's also hugely irritating to get all these developers and publishers pushing their tedious animated logos when.. WE'VE ALREADY BOUGHT THE SODDING GAME!
Worse still - many games have the logos of the developers and publishers throughout the content of the game and in the menus. With that lot, is it really necessary to increase the loading time of the game EVEN FURTHER just to whore their company's name a bit more?
It's a reason I don't tend to play many games - because one has to wait for them to load.
When I'm bored and want entertaining, loading screens and corporate logos are the last thing I want to see.
This is one of the reasons I love gaming on my PSP. It has a standby mode. If I'm in the middle of a game I just pause it (not required, but generally easier) and then flick the power switch. It'll quite happily stay in standby mode for many hours, if not days, without the battery dying.
When I find time to play again I just flick the power switch again and straight away I'm back in the game, barely a second or two to load up.
If only home consoles and PC games had that sort of option.

It kinda worked. I sometimes check Wave on my iPhone and sometimes add notes but properly editing is difficult if not impossible.

Which bit of Facebook was in there? I've heard it said loads of times and I still don't understand how Wave has anything to do with social networking.

That's quite an interesting idea actually. Worth considering.

I didn't write this article!
I never thought I'd see another "Benjamin Fox" on slashdot..

If he uses Windows, remove his PC and install Windows ME on it. If he uses Linux, wipe it and give him a Gentoo disc.
