Remember folks, this is why you pay your high end executives lots of money....

What? To fuck over a company, the people working there, and the customers? That's all I see executives with over-the-top salaries and perks do. And don't give me the old "best money attracts the best talent" bullshit - I've seen kids running lemonade stands with more business sense than most big-shot execs.

YAWN, as usual, troll @ "the overpaid elite" from a /. AC.

You know what's happened as I've grown older? The more I think about starting my own company, the more amazed I am at the talent required to run one.

Aside from all that, $1m vs $2m isn't the issue-- for you it is, but you're just bitter with envy. It's all about incentives: what's going to motivate someone to work harder, when they've already got so much money? If you don't offer it, then it's not worth it to them, and they're not going to do it. If you were in the CEO's position 5 years ago, you would have been allured by the very same pressures they were-- outsource the jobs, reap massive profit for about 3-4 years, and get out and unload my shares before the consequences catch up to us.

Slashdot, get off your collective high horse and stop being bitter about supposedly overpaid execs. YOU worry about YOU, and you'll be paid quite a lot, as well. Maybe not $2m, but plenty enough to live a more than comfortable life. Most of the people that visit Slashdot are definitely above average folk. Pity that some of you waste it on bitter envy that leads to nothing but malice and unhappiness. Get up and do something about it! Master your job better! Get better at story telling, socializing, fraternizing; and soon you'll find yourself making friends with the higher ups and, while maybe not a promotion, you'll definitely make it through the layoffs.

Meh, free market actually is solving this, through 4G and WiMax wireless. For $80/month from Sprint you can get unlimited phones, text, internet, and PC internet (real unlimited bandwidth). If you think you just need it for travels here and there, you can get a 5GB plan.

CLEAR wireless doing the same thing, also WiMax. WiMax deployment cost simply involves lasso'ing yet another antennae to already erected cell wireless towers. No last mile problems.

Nobody ever said the Free Market always solved all problems first.
But I'm confident with multiple wireless carriers entering the scene, our solution will be better than what would have come about if our government [even more] got involved. Remember-- just because it worked somewhere else, DOESN'T mean it'll work here. Our legislature is different, the people are different, and seem far more readily disposed to slinging money at the problem (the Healthcare plan) than actually making a solution that works.

I just bought an Acer Aspire One AO751h.

It has 6-8h (wlan/no wlan, depending on brightness). it's got an Atom z520 and the GMA500 graphics chip (very low power) which has PowerVR which can accelerate 1080p videos. There's some driver issues ATM (jumping through hoops with special settings in KMPlayer) but h264, AVC1 play great. VC.1 plays as well, but I have use DXVA checker to get it to play without dropping frames-- showing that the capability is in the hardware, just needs some driver work.

It weighs 3lbs, has a 11.6" screen (1366x768) and a full-sized keyboard. It's the perfect size for a netbook; the 10.1" screens don't have enough vertical viewing resolution and you end up scrolling up/down all the time in Excel spreadsheets and Firefox/Chrome, especially if you roll with the taskbar on the bottom like most people. 768vert is 28% more viewing area vertically compared with the 10.1" models.

With Win7 on it and 2GB RAM, it flies; I love it.
There's really no need to wait.

I don't really care though. Bluray will likely be to DVD what the CD was to the cassette-- there will be no need for a new video content format. If I'm a software engineer, and I have expertise to recommend on a subject, is it more profitable for me to just be quiet, or is it better to copy and paste the relevant parts so people can spend 4 minutes and understand the important parts? This is simple marketing, nobody has the time to read everything on the net. Give them good links, or better yet give them slashdot, and they'll find it all much faster.
