But why are messaging protocols that exist only on desktop or on mobile even considered in this list? Why would someone WANT to artificially limit his messaging possibilities to only a fraction of the population?
The protocols themselves are probably platform agnostic, but the user interface and/or OS/library support may not be. In addition and more likely, if it's a standalone application, the developer may only have experience coding for mobile or desktop. For example, I can easily code just about anything in several languages for Windows, Linux and Unix and cross-platform, but don't have any experience writing for Android or iOS - even in Java, I'm not familiar with the mobile libraries and classes. Just my $0.02.
Nevermind dropping the whole "falsely" thing. Banning someone for yelling "fire" when there is a fire, however small, is the height of idiocy.
On the other hand, I imagine one will also get thrown out for yelling "movie" in a crowed fire station, if, for no other reason, than not being funny or original.
Can I ask the people on the left, when did the left start to view free speech as being a bad thing?
It started when they got so offended by opposing viewpoints that they started condemning them as hate speech, then adopted the mantra "hate speech isn't free speech"
Seems things can be differentiated by the placement of a single hyphen: "hate-free speech" vs. "hate free-speech"
The biggest problem with this scorecard is it mixes desktop and mobile apps together without really indicating which type of app they are.
Why is that a problem? Why would I want to use a protocol why isn't available on both desktops AND mobiles? Being artificially limited to only one platform sounds like a PITA.
Interpreting the parent post as an English sentence, it would seem that the problem isn't with the mixing, but, rather, with the lack of indications as to which platform(s) the app is for. While you might only be interested in apps available for both mobile and desktop, it's conceivable that others may only want an app for one or the other and, therefore, a platform indication may be useful to their research and selection.
Sorry about that. Your initial post sounded more like you were actively engaged in avoidance with detached parents - or were just a self-centered prick. I've had friends with low-affect and the relationships can still flourish once everyone is on the same page and exert a little effort to see things from different viewpoints. Similarly, I have a friend with a child (my "nephew" to make things easier) who has mild Asperger's and interactions take a little work on both side of his relationships, but it's well worth the effort as he's a great, smart kid.
Don't be hesitant to explain things to people you want to know. If they're worth anything, they'll stick it out and try to make it work if you do too.
Don't you realize that anti-matter is simply a theory?
Antimatter has been created and stored (quote below) and noted here Q & A: How to make antimatter, so it's more than a theory, but doing so in large quantities and using it is still a wild impracticability.
This has been done at CERN, the European centre for nuclear research, by slowing the antiprotons in a machine called the AD (Antiproton Decelerator). Electric and magnetic forces then gather them together with positrons. Since 2009, ALPHA has trapped atoms in a magnetic bottle on a few hundred occasions.
In 2011, the ALPHA experiment at CERN managed to make atoms of antihydrogen, the antimatter equivalent of hydrogen, and store them for nearly 17 minutes.
I want to be a Silicon Valley CEO. Commit 47 felonies and only get a year in jail.
On the other hand... The guy could have just been happy with the $300 million he got for selling his company and lived well for the rest of his life. Being rich doesn't mean you *have* to be a dick.
It is funny how Slashdotters don't know anything about the real world. You don't just "call up and order a warrant" like you would get a pizza. For fucks sake.
That's not entirely fair. The youngsters probably assume there's an app for that.
Getting to GTO requires a lot of speed and uses up a lot of fuel during take off, more so than getting to lower Earth orbit. That makes things difficult for the rocket landing afterward...there's less fuel leftover for the vehicle to reignite its engines and perform the necessary landing maneuvers.
Does anyone know (or can point me to doc) about how the Falcons perform their descents. Is it powered / controlled the entire time, or parachute (or para-*somehing*) and just powered / controlled near the ground. I imagine the fuel requirements would be different.
I have first-hand experience with someone that "can't handle confidential information."
Although... in this case that information may be "how they misused investor monies for blackjack and hookers." I don't know if a her position and/or a confidentially agreement (if there was one) covers keeping improper actions a secret.
Don't tell us what Snapcraft 2.14 is or anything, I can't even begin to take a guess from the description.
It's a new video game. The full name is "World of Snapcraft". The point of the game is still unclear, but playing it seems onerous as you must bring *everything* you want to use within the virtual world with you. I'm thinking a simple sack will be insufficient and am trying to use a cart, but my horse keeps standing behind it, not in front.
I excluded my parents when I was 10. When I was 12, I built a computer so as to separate my point-of-contact from them so I could better-conceal my activities. My parents didn't raise me; I raised myself, and took action to avoid interacting with them so much. Routine. Don't raise any concern, and the oblique talks and arguments and car rides are all just motions, and not communication.
Not trying to nullify any problems you may have had with your parents (unless you're just a self-centered dick)... but you paid for all that yourself - computer, housing, food, clothes, etc... - when your were 10 and 12? Wow. Congrats on truly raising you yourself. Dude. Why did you even *have* parents. Would have been way better to just go it alone. Good luck with your own children.
Because your personal choices about business dealings, charitable donations, what sort of bonuses you might give to your personal assistant or landscaper, and a thousand other things are private and can be kept that way if you choose to do so.
However, Trump has made statements about all these things in relation to his character and many (if not most) of these claims have been demonstrated to be, if not outright false, exaggerations. His tax returns are more objective in this regard - which is what concerns Trump.
The thing is if you start 20 businesses and 17 of them go bankrupt, you are still doing ok as a businessman.
If they still go bankrupt after stiffing your sub-contractors and/or getting an illegal $3.4M loan from your father (excerpt below) to pay the bills, then you're not doing so OK. Furthermore, does that sound like someone you'd like to do business with - or run your country - or be head of the free world?
In December of 1990, a lawyer for Fred Trump walked into Trump Castle in Atlantic city and, according to reports at the time, deposited a check with the casino for $3.36 million in exchange for chips. Instead of using the chips to play in the casino, the lawyer left.
The result: an interest free loan to Trump from “Daddy-O.”
The loan scheme was ultimately found to be illegal, btw, and Trump kept the money but had to pay a $30,000 fine. That's a pretty good return on investment for breaking the law. Oh, and then this happened:
Fred Trump would make further payments to his son, and Donald Trump ultimately settled his debts.
... the vehicle has a range of 381 miles or 613 kilometers.
'Cause the kilometer range sounds way better... Is there a switch or something?

Besides, of course I'm a self-centered prick.
There's a big difference between people who are and can/can't help it and how much slack they should be afforded about it.

This is the view from the rocket as it descends and lands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Nice. Thanks.
Thanks very much! The graphic was very helpful.
Would a parachute, or more to the point, some type of steerable / controllable drag component deployed during part of the descent help or hurt?

More than one in three IT pros believe cloud providers should turn over encrypted data to the government when asked, ...
Have all the encrypted data you want. The keys and/or forced decryption are another matter.
That way it cannot even be forced to decrypt it without violating the rules of mathematics and complexity theory.
As though stuff like that has ever stopped the government (aka: politicians) to date. The only rule to remember is: You can't argue with stupid.

How it this news? A 12 year old says something stupid on reddit and it ends up on the front page of Sladhdot?

Also, his "I am not a crook" line was about his tax issues, not Watergate.
