I wouldn't even say those are the big advantages of C and C++ any more.
It's a relatively rare application these days that needs the kind of raw speed you can't achieve with other mainstream languages yet which relies on C or C++ for its performance-critical logic rather than either dropping to assembly (or linking to someone else's library that probably does) or resorting to some form of parallelism.
Or real-time and/or military uses. I know of several projects that use C/C++ over Java for both of those reasons.
On the other hand, the lead developer is from Red Hat, and works on Gnome, and some of their other developers have caused a lot of heartburn... (not naming any names, of course)
Raise your hand if you're interested in having something called "the harvester" implanted in your body.
On the other hand... It would make a good sci-fi horror film. People are implanted with a device made called, "the harvester", made by John Deere (or similar) and are sub-sequentially enslaved by the support contracts because they have no right to repair the devices and removing them is not a survivable option. Oh wait, sounds like a "dark" version of the movie, Repo Men - never mind.
There's a movie about that, you know? It doesn't end up well for us.
The division of the company I work for just switched to a matrix management organization style, calling it "The Matrix". They also used a photo from the movie in the power point presentations until someone (okay, several people) pointed out that equating us with interchangeable, disposable batteries really wasn't cool or good for morale. They kept the name though...
What goes around is apparently coming around - thanks a lot for that.
Seems that whole "(our) security through (your) obscurity" thing has a few wrinkles in it.
Sincerely,
The people you're supposed to be protecting.

After you decrypt, you're left with a Windows XP system.
Could be worse. Instead of encrypting your files, just think if the ransomware threatened to upgrade your system to Windows 10 if you didn't pay. (At least Microsoft tried molesting your system for free...)
America's Cars Are Suddenly Getting Faster and More Efficient
With a title that notes cars getting "faster" and "more efficient", it would be nice if the, fairly long, summary actually mentioned both things rather than just the faster part -- especially as the latter is more important. Seriously, I can only go so fast so quickly, but efficiency helps out all the time.
As for "suddenly," the only time comparison in TFS is between 1976 and 2017:
If a 1976 driver were to somehow get his hands on a car from 2017, he'd be at grave risk of whiplash.
We, apparently, have different definitions of the word "suddenly".
The CO2 emission per KW produced by burning coal is nearly twice as high as from methane. Not a final solution but still better than coal.
Not to mention that coal contains other things, like arsenic, and burning coal generates a lot of (acidic) ash. Sure, some (most?) of that can be filtered out (for a price) but then you have all that material to deal with.
There will be a "mass stranding of existing vehicles." The value of second-hard cars will plunge. You will have to pay to dispose of your old vehicle. It is a twin "death spiral" for big oil and big autos,...
Get state governors to give Ford tax breaks to keep the employees and (effectively) let the employees pay for their own jobs - like Pence did in Indiana for Carrier. Problem solved./sarcasm
Banning stand-alone DVD players, cell phones and hand-help games (basically anything with a battery). Traveling with kids is going to be really fun. Also, anyone looking forward to checking their laptop along with baggage?
These days, everything is a computer. Your stove, your car, your cable modem, your TV, all are computers.
Vibrators. (yes, Google it)
Wrong. Computers aren't getting faster and faster. Moore's Law is dead.
Maybe it's just resting ...
This isn't the 90s.
It will be in 73 years.
Anything requiring speed and expressivity.

Much easier to maintain than a "six-pack".

Have you been watching Fox News? They have been committing slander, libel and other things against the DNC staffer ...
Ya, but they haven't groped him yet, so their lawyers said it's okay.
You can copyright very long strings of words as complete thoughts, but even then I can quote you all I like as long as I give credit.
You're confusing Copyright with Plagiarism.
I'll have to allocate an entire 1.6 TB drive for swap space.

Damn you Obamacare. :-)

As "Slater" said on Archer, Season 6, Episode 8, "The Kanes":
'Cause if you think the Middle East is messed up now, just wait until nobody needs their oil.

The ones that are left are the ones that were willing to make the hard decisions to increase the value to the owners.
I'm sure it doesn't hurt that the people making those hard decisions will (I'm sure) get big bonuses at the expense of others.
This new feature is called "Edge Sense," and it can be configured to do a variety of tasks with either short or long squeezes.
Are they talking about a phone or a fleshlight?
Bzzzt! Wrong! It's the NHS.
It's happening in more than just the UK. From TFS:
Update: BBC is reporting that similar attacks are being reported in the UK, US, China, Russia, Spain, Italy, Vietnam, Taiwan today.
Don't give it to them! If you give them ransomware, they're just going to use it to start attacking people and demanding ransoms from their victims.
Hospitals already have their own ransomware. It's call the bill.
Along with green energy came major infrastructure investments and the decree that we should never again have power outages. The gold plating began.
I'm confused. Are you complaining about making the infrastructure more reliable or using Monster Cables to do it?
You don't talk about Mystery Project. (You know the rest ...)
Summary of Summary: Students now assumed to have attention spans and concentration skills of goldfish.
More importantly ... (hey, where'd everyone go?)
