Can you believe the troll you responded to got modded +5 informative? It's like "through the looking glass" around here. Anyone who actually knows any facts knows that Vista's DRM is for the most part a non-issue, especially at present. Guttman is widely derided as full of shit by anyone who knows anything, and was in fact even called out by some SlashDweebs when the original article was making its boring rounds. Now someone brought it up again and people have the gall to claim Gutttman isn't an idiot. Hilarious.
Oh FFS. Why, because purchasing movies is a critial thing to people's lives? I mean, God Forbid - that the "industry" would form a cartel and decide to "lock away" Norbit or Brittney Spears, or even good stuff.
There is _always_ a free market in discretionary goods, which is a point you monopoly-crying numnuts fail to grasp. If you don't _need_ it, you can _always_ choose not to buy it. When Itunes' DRM was unbreakable for a brief period not too long ago, I didn't buy it. You know - it's the damnedest thing about that. I actuall survived!
I'm tired of all this fucking whining. Don't buy DRM content if it doesn't suit your needs. It's as simple as that.
It is a triviality. If you buy DRM'd media, you will be playing by the DRM rules. Big deal. Gutmann is an idiot, and his little diatribe has been known to be factually incorrect FUD for a long time. My only question is why is this Bott guy getting attention for pointing out the obvious?
Intel was smart and used MCM. 2 dual core chips pasted together. AMD is doing the tri-core thing out of desperation, even one of their own guys recently said they made a mistake trying to wait for "real" quad core. Now they're paying the price and this is a silly effort to make back some of their losses.
Huh? The 4th core "doesn't work" because of manufacturing defects. AMD thought it would be really cool to have a "real" quad core. Now they're paying the price in yields and are trying to recoup some losses on bad chips. You will never know what is wrong with any given core on the chip. Kind of silly to spend time looking for the specific cause that makes your particular 4th core broken. Could be anything, you can't just "work around it".
It does matter. You can't, in a rational world, have a monopoly on intellectual property. Furthermore, consumer choice can't create a monopoly. The only time monopoly law makes sense is in the case of government granted monopolies over limited, physical resources or in cases of grave danger to society. Neither is the case. There are plenty of OS alternatives, if consumers decide they want a single source for OS's, because of compatibility concerns, the market has spoken.
In other words, nobody but angry, bitter nerds or MS competitors want 4 OS's with 25% market share. It would be a nightmare. Once again, the free market proves its wisdom over communist and socialist scum.
Yeah, they tried that. It's called "communism". It doesn't work so well. Do you even know what "trustbusting" or a "trust" is? Microsoft isn't one. They're not even a monopoly in any meaningful sense unless you think consumer choice in an open market can create a monopoly, in which case you're simply a...poor thinker.
Ahahaha! Sweet! This guy changed the usual "convicted monopolist" to "legally convicted criminal!" And he even went beyond the usual laughable dramatics and put it in bold! Sweeeet! You, sir, are the rockingest angry, bitter nerd to post your dramatic outrage (with meaningful, concerned look on face at time of typing, I'm sure) I've seen post in the last few hours. Congratulations!
Criminal! Ahahaha. Rich. If only that word meant what you thought it did.
Shh. Don't ruin his big finale of point by point blows to his mortal enemy, MS! Can't you see how rational and logical he was? Ahahaha. These anti-MS nerds take themselves so seriously. My favorite make-believe term they use is "convicted monopolist!". Can't you just see them getting all worked up and taking on a meaningful facial expression when they say it. Like a politician decrying pornography and telling people to (queue meaninful, concerned look) "think of the children".
The nerds and the competition have already lost. Normal people don't hate Microsoft. Only filthy, bitter, angry nerds and MS competitors hate Microsoft. That 4% of the population is never going to succeed against a juggernaut with that much money. They've already lost and they don't even have the common sense to understand that not only _wasn't_ their cause just, their cause was never a cause at all.
Small problem. Most people _want_ that MS software. And I see the laughable sarcasm the parent post used to deflect the legitimate criticism of XPN. I know that since you used "yadda yadda" and since your sentence was hilariously sarcastic I must be a fool to ask this, but I'm genuinely curious as to why you think anyone would want a version of XP with fewer features _other_ than socialist EU scum? Consumers certainly don't want to get less for their money. And the ones who know and care enough most certainly have plenty of choices for add-on software.
And that's because...people still choose to buy Microsoft products despite the angry hand-wrenching of nerds everywhere who swear that there are better choices, some of which are free. You can say it's about market position all you want, I don't care about that and neither do most right thinking people. It's about logic and rational thinking. If there are high quality free alternatives in any market, it is impossible to have a monopoly in said market.
The fact is that no matter what the dirty huddled masses of pathetic geeky dweebs think, people choose to use Microsoft OS's because they don't care. They don't obsess over the OS, they care about the apps. The apps are on Windows. Ergo, Windows will always be the overwhelmingly dominant OS. This is a simple fact, and you're all just tilting at windmills.
I wasn't aware I paid Google to do anything. In fact, it seems I'm using a free service. It's odd that apparently I am paying Google for a service and apparently they have some kind of responsibility to me?
On what basis do these idiots think Google has some contract with me or anyone else _except_ their advertisers to show any kind of search result in any kind of order at all?
Yeah yeah, we all know. FBDIMM is a power sucker. FBDIMM is going the way of the dodo before long, though.
AMD also typically has lower idle clock multipliers so when they're not doing anything, they draw less power. If you have a room full of computers sitting there doing nothing, you'll certainly use less power in that case.
Fair use is a defense against copyright infringement suits. It is not some "inalienable" God Given right like free speech or freedom of religion. Meaning you can exercise fair use, and if someone sues you and court determines it was fair use, you're OK. However - you have no "right" to it in that if a company, say, prevents you by means of technical steps from making "fair use" of materials, you can't sue them and in fact can't do anything about it.
.NET is not based on any of those. Not to be insulting, but you clearly don't know anything about.NET. If I were you I'd go do some digging, it's really worth it. Going back to Java after having developed some enterprise web services with.NET would be like sticking a dull pencil in my eyeball.
I don't really equate Silverlight with Flash in my mind, though everyone else does. I think of Silverlight as a way to develop rich applications that look the same in a web browser as apps on a Windows machine developed in.NET. I'm not really a multimedia guy so I'm just more interested in not having to develop in primitive ass HTML anymore for web apps.
Microsoft still forces PC makers to only selling Windows PCs. If they try to sell PCs with non-Windows OS they are denied any discounts on MS products. This lowers the profit margins on a PC by a lot.
Linky? I'm sure you have evidence for this?
That is exactly what the government should do. If a company is abusing a monopoly, they should be made to suffer financially until their behaviour changes. Steps should be taken to break the monopoly and give customers more choice. If MS doesn't like it they should stop their anti-competitive behaviour.
Unfortunately, for your point, consumers do have choice. Of course there's OS X, but Linux is even free. I mean, I'm confused - is Linux better than Vista/XP or not? You all swear it is, but in the next breath say consumers have no choice. I guess you can have your cake and eat it too after all.
The humanity! The sheer horror! I can't believe they're not standing next to Chemical Ali, most surely their crimes are far worse than his. Pfft, killing a few people. Bah. That pales in comparison to this mighty list.
Ahahaha. Seriously, dude, you should be embarassed. As I read this, one phrase came to mind "...and get to the bad part?".
You want to know why the poor get poorer? Because they breed like animals. It's as simple as that. I have 0 sympathy for "the poor" as a class. They are self sustaining. Look at who's having the most children - poor people. Look at who has the highest rate of child abuse (of all sorts) and neglect - poor people. Maybe in my youth it was nice to frame some picture of the "noble poor", but as early middle age looms, I generally can't stand poor people (again, as a class).
Yes yes.. some of them are noble, and work, and are honest...yes yes I know. But as a whole, they spit out kids they can't take care of and/or raise badly and create more poverty. Then their messed up kids do the same thing. And we, middle America, feel sorry for them. Fuck poor people, especially if you're poor and you have kids you can't take care of them or raise them poorly.

When Nerds Attack 3: The Nerdening.
Savaged by a bunch of half-wit SlashNerd dweebs. I'm sure he's all broken up about it.
On what basis do these idiots think Google has some contract with me or anyone else _except_ their advertisers to show any kind of search result in any kind of order at all?

My point was simple. The copyright holder is under no obligation to facilitate your fair use "rights".
Fair use is a defense against copyright infringement suits. It is not some "inalienable" God Given right like free speech or freedom of religion. You are retarded.

I'm not really a multimedia guy so I'm just more interested in not having to develop in primitive ass HTML anymore for web apps.
Ant is not used at runtime, of course, and neither is Maven. Java is a stick in the mud, C#/.NET is fun to develop in.
Wow, _somebody_ learned to hide their meds under their tongue when the nice orderly comes by every morning.
Linky? I'm sure you have evidence for this?

Umm, aren't you forgetting? God is an American. Ergo, we shouldn't make anyone nervous. Yes, there's sarcasm in one or more of these sentences.
Yes yes.. some of them are noble, and work, and are honest...yes yes I know. But as a whole, they spit out kids they can't take care of and/or raise badly and create more poverty.
