That's what I thought until I bought Freedom Furniture's "Laptop Table". Unfortunately it will throw laptops onto the floor, probably causing more damage than exploding batteries.
When I get the LCD replaced I'll take my chances with my nuts catching on fire -- there's no way I'm putting anything near Freedom's Laptop Table again.
I used YouTube to voice a complaint against Freedom Furniture several months ago, after they sold me a "Laptop Table" that promptly destroyed my laptop. Freedom Furniture wouldn't cooperate in fixing the damage their product directly caused, so I released the video to the public.
I was just about to buy my wife 13 inches of flaming pleasure in the form of a new MacBook for her birthday. After reading this article, it looks like I'll have to give it to her the old fashioned way.

I bought one of these laptop tables a few months ago, assembled it, RTFMd, checked the bolts, RTFMd again, rechecked the bolts, and sat down at it with my brand new Acer Ferrari. The angle wasn't comfortable, so I adjusted it... and watched my brand new laptop flip onto the floor and shatter the screen.

While not even remotely original in concept, it's an effective method of getting a warning out.
