RFID technology has been around for more than 60 years, but has only recently become cheap enough to be adopted widely. E-Z Pass prepay toll systems across the country run on RFIDs, pets and livestock around the world have RFID implants, and businesses such as Wal-Mart plan to use the tags to track their inventory.
windows xp is the evolution of 2000, and was geared just as much for businesses (the professional version) as homes (home version). The prof and home versions also share the same kernel..
I think this article mixed up windows xp with windows millenium....
It's too bad we don't hear things like....

TV Losing to Video Games

TV is losing to reading books.
Even with the advent of the American coffee shop and the massive book retailers (B&N, Borders, etc.), people just don't read much it seems.
I've heard book sales are up, but not reading, which is highly interesting. It means people buy books with the intent of reading them but never do. Or they just want to seem smart? Who knows.
well, what opens doors for me and makes me not worry is the fact that i'm 22 and have worked 10 industry jobs (coding contracts, full summer internships, etc.), so I have plenty of experience when I walk in to get a job.
I am actually from IL, but I goto OSU (scholarship made it cheaper then staying in state), and am majoring in electrica and computer engineering. The EE is pretty hardcore here overall, and is a good program. I have my suspicions about the CS department, but as long as you are picky as to who you take classes with, you're fine.
Basically, if you do well at Ohio State and want to goto grad school, you can get in anywhere. For Undergrad, you don't *need* to goto MIT.
I have job offers already for when I graduate. Big job offers. I don't have the best gpa either, not terrible, not amazing...but I have friends with 3.9's coming out of Brown that can't find a job. I'm not saying I'm any better...well not a lot better, but that it's not about where you went or what your gpa was (to an extent), but what you did in college, what you can do, and who you know.
Just because you can pass classes does not make you a good engineer, programmer, etc. etc. Don't forget that and don't let the elitest talk of MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, etc. deter you from going somewhere that you can AFFORD and ENJOY life. There's more to life then just coding, although coding is damned fun.
Also, in reply to the person who attended UIUC, don't make blanket statements about a college. You sound ignorant when you make statements such as those. I would have hoped a college education at a good school like UIUC would have taught you that, but I guess not.
It's never too late really when you dominate the high end unix market (with IBM). But really, when it comes to running large oracle databases that are mission critical, sun shines, and that is where their market is. They just want to expand more and keep some of the smaller market to help supplement their main focus. You may argue that the high end server market isn't their focus, but that is the area that they differ from all the other providers, which is an important thing.
No. We won't have had enough until this nonsense ends. Having control over a certain implementation is one thing, but to claim IP over "ordering and downloading resources from computerized repositories" is total crap. Basically ordering and downloading were around as were computerized repositories. They just put to things that existed together in one patent to try and control it.
I wish yahoo had some guts and had decided to take it on. The patent system was never meant to uphold these patents. That's the point, and that's why we keep seeing these stories. If no one knows about it, nothing will happen.
I feel that action has to be taken, and that individuals as well as corporations this affects voice their opinion to congress and make them add some type of safeguard since the patent office is grossly handing out dangerous patents.
These are extremely dangerous patents. What if someone took a stove and added a keyboard to it and patented that. The two existed before. Does that mean that one should be able to patent the simple combination of the two?
Maybe that was in fact a reply to her? I'm not sure, but if she's British, her spelling does in fact hold up. It's just not the American way of spelling it.
Are spelling proficiency and typing proficiency the same thing?
Didn't think so. Keep your half assed worthless remarks to yourself. If you want to make a valid arguement that isn't based on a few mistypes, then I'd shut the fuck up;). Have a great day!
I think basically it's a patent for the graphical implementation of fast user switching. Su and terminal switching can be considered fast user switching, but no in a gui enviornment. I'm not saying patents on software are good, but I doubt the unix prior art would hold up since this is specific to a different enviornment.
Also, why do you feel the need to fall into the category of people trying to prop themselves up by pushing out an image of themselves as they want themselves to be percieved by everyone else? I mean, mensa is pretty much an elitest group which I chose not to join because of the pure ideal of it, and calling yourself a babe, well that's subjective and all, but usually people don't say they are something (in a physically attractive sense) unless they are actually quite insecure. I'm not saying you are, but I'm saying it seems pretty stupid to cater to the popuar image of what a "geek girl" fantasy should be (i.e. smart and a babe, which you very well could be, but who cares?).
I've really only found mpeg2 to be "good." I haven't really gotten mpeg4 to look as well as mpeg2 even with the lowest compression setting. I'm not sure if mpeg4 was simply designed for streaming or whatnot. Anyone know what the major differences between mpeg2 and 4 are?
Well, just to note, the Mac OS X version of IE did NOT crash. However, anyone using IE on mac when Camino, Mozilla, and Safari are well put together should have their head examined. Don't forget Opera too.
The bug seems to be Windows only....so the Mac coders at MS may be better coders...who knows.
Is this a joke or just some stupid ploy to get money for the Russian space program. I mean, 20k...that's an expensive letter.
What would the point be except for rich people to claim that they spent 20k on a stamp basically. I know of some crappy fundraisers, but this one sucks.
I'd rather them just ask for donations really. It'd be more honerable I think.
I think for a corporation, support is a larger factor then anything.
A good support plan can save lots of money, and frankly, having someone in house build large servers gets expensive after awhile. That's why Dell does so well:). Good support.
Are you having issues mixing up business ventures with weapons creation? Can google be considered a "weapon of mass destruction?"
Seriously, stop the bush bullshit. It shows ignorance to blame everything on one person. I don't neccessarily like him, but back things up with educated knowledge or don't say it at all...oh wait, it's slashdot. sorry.
Desire and greed make the world go round. What's capitalism based upon? Think about it. One's desire to improve and gain with governmental checks (yes there are exceptions...)....
Also, Newtons laws of universal gravitation also existed well before newton discovered them....stupid sarcastic remarks that mean nothing.:)
I was suggesting that they would access an 802.11b router, which would then itself be bridged somehow to the 802.16a interface..I'm not an idiot....the 802.16a would be the backend and wired somehow to the 802.11b.
Also, it's 802.16a, not 802.11a,.,.,I wish people would get it correct. Don't imply I'm wrong when you aren't even using the correct standards...802.11a is completely different from 802.16a (802.11a is yet another hotspot standard and 16a is the longrange one for non hotspot usage)
That's their right. There's nothing that says we are allowed total access to anything in China.
Wake up, seriously. Be a realist for a second and also think about the last time you looked for anything in China anyways. A person has the right to restrict anything they have created...the case in China can be considered governmental restriction...but it is STILL their right to do so.
It's not my government. I have the rights that are upheld under my government.
There are certain unalienable rights as a human. Whatever their government decides to do, as long as it does not interfere with my natural rights as a human being, I can't tell them how to live.
What do you suggest otherwise? Going in and bombing them and forcing them to live how I live just because I think I'm right? I don't think I could do that.

you did elite roring? :).
Actually I'm interested in how you did it (if you don't mind saying)....

/me grabs a beer and doesn't worry.
Oh wait, I'm a jew. damn. oh well

So in "English" English, is it color or colour. I guess I'm confused as to what the premise is that you use ou in the ending of words such as that.

Is everyone everywhere quitting now?
Will techies be able to get jobs now? Cool.
This wasn't recompressed, it was DV -> mpeg4....
Also, it was out of Final Cut Pro...I was actually kinda depressed with the quality.

Can you be anymore racist in a poorly written paragraph? I'm not sure..I'd venture to say yes, but I'd rather not see the examples.
