    This reminds me of a cartoon I saw once.
    There were two disembodied hands at a desk, the left is juggling with a few balls, and the right has a piece of paper on which it was scrawling in angry writing "tonight the left hand gets it. die die DIE!"

    It comes from old greek.
    phil- meaning love of, pasion for, interest in etc, anthropic - of man.

    So it means something like "love of humankind" (generally).

    Words with similar bits in are like necro-philia, (love of dead things) or the ghastly "X-phile".
    Also things like anthropo-morphic (people-shaped). /learning greek, have too much time on hands.

    If we can't use AdBlock without breaking a social contract, are we similarly breaking a social contract by filtering our e-mails for spam?

    The broadcasters want us to stay tuned all the time also. Do I break a social contract by switching off the TV?

    Also, the "beware of the leopard" adds an element of the unusual or unexpected, which just makes it more amusing.
