Hey! I want to be rich. That doesn't mean it won't happen. I am still young, I am sure their are lots of young slashdot readers. In fact, I think we should have a poll to figure out how old the average slashdot reader is. I have been reading slashdot for the past 2 years or so. I am 17 now. I love this stuff. I love being able to get the latest news and also what people, who I consider some of the smartest people out there, think about what's happening.
Most of us just have to find out how we are going to make our millions. I have had a few ideas, but nothing I have taken much action on. But the time is nearing, I need to get myself a job, get a little capital going so I can start someting. I am not going to let an article like this deture me. And it should not deture you either, no matter how old you are.
Oh ya. If you live in the Las Vegas area and have an opening for a young, smart, slashdot reader, send me an e-mail, Ice_Hole@Yahoo.com
I don't know everything their is to know about the Dreamcast. But I am sure it has way's to add things to it (Such as N64's Rumble pack, and memory cards). These "expansion slots" should be able to transfer data somehow. At Least, If SEGA were smart! Then in a few months time SEGa would release the new LAN card for this expansion slot thus makeing more money (That's what it's all about isn't it?). But then again, with SEGS just announcing that their dreamcast network will take a little while longer than expected to set up, who knows how long it would take for a LAN card to hit the market.
Just think of going to a LAN party and all you need to bring is a dreamcast instead of all your computer gear.. This has definate possibilities. Granted, LAN parties would change, it would no longer be comparing and tradeing your 10 gig mp3 collection:(
Check out tzo.com.. They have quite a bit of information on their web site, and look affordable. I have never used their services and really don't know much about them. I do know somone that is using them to get a domain.tzo.com to his IP so that you don't have to know his IP to login to his FTP site.. It is nice to have, makes life easier. Read their web page, it may be what you are looking for.
What punishment would be appropriate for these "kids" who get their hands on some programs and start mesing around? How far is too far? Try catching everyone that has ever used a ping attack. Would their be a fair way to bust people? Could you arrest somon because they were "at the wrong place at the right time"? I don't think that their is a way to control what is happening. At least not from the standpoint of some sort of law enforcement. The internet by nature will be hard to regulate, but do we want to regulate it the same way we regulate laws such as J-walking? If it possible to enforce laws about the internet the same way as we would try to enforce laws that can be physically proven? What kind of investigations would we conduct and what kind of evidence would we use to prove a case?
This is why the internet will never be (completely) regulated.. At least not in the forseeable future. Do we really want to have everything we do watched? I think not..
((Mark this what you will.. I just went off and it is late))
Just think.. In some places you have recycle bins for everything from cans to paper and plastic.. This is all well and good. But imagine having a recycle bin to put say your grass after you cut it.. Or better yet, everyone has a service that comes by, cuts your grass, and then takes the grass and turns it into plastics.. Then we would not have fields and fields of this genetic plant, but people would be growing it without even thinking about it in their own back yards.. It would be going back to the good old days of living off of the fat of the land. Everyone would be providing for themselves, our parks would become "farms" for this plastic.
Just think about the business you could start, you could run a processing plant for this new grass (I am calling it grass because I think once they figure this out they could make it for any type of plant, grass is very abundant and grows fast, and is very common), you could also go around having people pay you to replant this grass in their yards/ in all the local parks, you could then charge for triming the grass and carrying it away, and then you could make money selling this plastic.. Sounds like you make money at every turn, it just depends on how much you really want to own a landscaping business I guess:)
I have been thinking the same thing.. THink about it. If you were to take and put a small ammount or RAM in the thing. What do we consider small these days? 32 MB? Even if 16 MB was considered small you could buffer songe from the CD and load them into RAM. This should not take more than a few seconds. Then the CD could be allowed to spin down (Conserving power) and also you would not have any more moving parts. Of cource it takes more power to get the CD spining tham for it to continually spin, but at what size of a "cache" would it take to be more efficient? With a 16 MB cache having the CD player start spining every 13 minutes or so to replenish the buffer seems to me like it would conserve more energy. As for the ammount of energy it takes to decode the mp3 this is very small (I am sure their are people who could talk a lot more intelligibly than me about power consumption by a small motherboard and CPU.)
I have built an mp3 player for my car and I initially had the idea that I could use both the CD drive in a way similar to this and also hsve the Hard Drive store songs. Then I would be able to burn CD's to play whenever I felt like it, and I could have the hard drive in my car full also. This appealed to me because of the simplicity of putting a CD in the CD ROM drive and letting it play. Right now I am working on finding an easy (AKA Cheap) way to add/ remove songs from the player (The most idea way I can think of is through a wireless ethernet connection, just elave it running and remotely log in to it and do whatever needs to be done..)
Imagine, one of these day's car's will just come with this stuff standard.. We will be able to be in our cars accessing our mp3 collection that is on our home PC's and also have access to all of our friends collections! Isn't the music industry gunna love us?
