I am really worried about MOST telescope that the university of Sydney runs.
Don't be concerned about this - the northern suburbs of Canberra (where I live) have been mostly untouched by these events.

If you do your hoemwork, there are many players which will play from any region straight out of the box - no modification required. It's just a question of talking to the right people in the right stores in Australia.
I have a standalone (i.e. not a DVD ROM drive) player which has played every R0, R1, R2 and R4 disk I have tried. Yes it's badged as a R4, but it plays any region.
why didn't folks rush to stores to snag it up before they were all gone?
I walked around a local shopping mall the other day to see if I could get a WS version (I dislike P&S with a passion). In every store I was told, the WS version was all sold out while the P&S was there to be had.
One store managed to find a copy in one of their other branches - got it home and was sorely disappointed - IMHO, the transfer was just crap
If you go into a lot of stores in AU and speak with a knowledgeable sales person, they will tell you which ones are region free and which ones are not.
(When I was shopping for a player I asked this question of one dopey sales person and he looked at me in horror saying "we can't get a player like *that*!!" I took great pleasure in telling him that his competitors were selling just this type of equipment and just walking away from him)
My player happily plays either R1 or R4 disks - it's rated to R4 but I've put many R1 disks in and it's been fine. I've been told not to complain to the manufacturer if it spits on another region disk tho'!

The newest Natural Keyboard Pro (The one with all the blue buttons above the F keys) has reinstated the old arrow key configuration.
I've been typing and using mice for the last 15 years and just recently have started with pains in the wrist and elbow.
I went to see the doctor and he recommended using a aerobic weight (about 2 Kg), resting my forearm flat on a surface with the palm facing down and then lifting the weight up using only my wrist and holding it there for 30 seconds or so.
I've been doing this for the last few weeks and it seems to be helping.
Couldn't have put it better myself.
With the studios seeing their control gone out the window with the SD-DVD format, they really want to get a new format to market.
My prediction?
A new format will be announced and will be ignored by the consumer. SD-DVD will stay until a completely different technology comes along...
They already do - it's called an isolated score - not many disks do this but there are some...

Enjoy The Wall - it's a great transfer from the original film...

Hmm, this is a similar sentiment to the old Pink Floyd album, Animals - Roger Waters classified the whole human race into Dogs, Pigs and Sheep.
Unfortunately, owning one of those cars with central locking, this test doesn't work any longer! CK
