"It is directly against Phoenix's policy to create BIOS that would lock customers into any single OS. It has never been or will it ever be Phoenix's intention to lock a customer into a particular OS." -Gaurav Banga, CTO & SVP of Engineering at Phoenix Technologies Ltd. That MIGHT be Phoenix's policy but it CERTAINLY is NOT Microsoft's policy. Microsoft will attempt to get Phoenix to add features to make switching OSes harder. Microsoft's makes billions in extra profits through its monopoly. Also Phoenix and Toshiba have no real $ incentive to fight back and very HUGE $$$ incentive to help Microsoft.
If it is the money or the principle, they will take the money.

I don't know. Just this morning, I talked to a woman where I work who
just went out and plunked down $1500 for a high-end new PC. (She said
her old PC was 6-7 years old and pretty much done for, so she wanted
something good that would last.) She was so disgusted at Vista's lack
of support for her printer and scanner she wanted to re-use, she
returned the whole system the next evening!
The number of people "planning to buy a new PC with Vista
pre-installed" may not quite equal the number who stick with it after
they try it!
I was talking to a woman while waiting in line at the bank today. The
same
thing happened to her.
I got tired of the viruses and instability years ago. For Christmas I
bought a system from Curtis Systems
that was preloaded with the eComStation OS and OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Thunderbird, PMVIEW. Very high quality system, even had ECC memory on this consumer machine.
Computer users have to use their purchasing power.

It is YOUR computer and YOUR data
I had enough years ago. It is my computer and my data. I will not pay a
tax and give control of MY computer to a third party or ask permission
or pay
royalties (forced upgrades) to get access to MY data. No forced
registration. No
spying.
Stop feeding the monopoly. A competitive environment is good for all
users. A mono culture is bad for security. The major PC OEMs will drag
their
feet becuase they are looking to save pennies even if it costs computer
users
hundreds of
extra dollars in the long run.

Get the job done with an OS that doesn't waste cpu cycles. Also how much is sucked out by viruses/spyware/... and then all the anti-virus/spyware/.. utilities to fight them.
Save energy and be more secure.

Quality hardware and software is not that expensive. It only costs a little more. For example ECC memory. Why are so many paying for glitz while scrimping on the important stuff.
I encourage others to switch to eComStation on good hardware. Join other eComStation users
It came preloaded with a OpenOffice.org. Has quality hardware (instead of the Dell's lowest bidder components). Even had ECC memory
Even with out anti-virus software it is immune to all the windows virus/trojan/worms/.. crap. I also don't have to worry about the vendor shutting down my OS or apps remotely in the future.
You might like to spend your money paying for a glitzy web site but I would rather have my money go to getting top notch hardware and software.

businesses need to be able to share documents with their business partners and clients, thusly, they must support the same file formats as their business partners and clients.
Shouldn't the businesses be more worried about THEIR intellectuual property rather than microsoft's. The words typed and spreadsheets, presentations the employees create is owned by the business. Seems like the tool, microsoft office gets more protection than the work results created.
Your thoughts expressed in documents, spreadsheets, drawing, etc should be primary. The proprietary document computer file formats should not be used to lock you out of YOUR intellectuual property. Microsoft proprietary document Word/Office (.doc) and Excel (.xls) force you to pay an upgrade ransom to keep using or sharing YOUR intellectual property.

It natively uses LVM (Logical Volume Manager) Also has JFS (a file system) eComStation, ms win and Linux can co-exist on the same hard drive
