if you read the chain you would realize "Europe alone is larger in each" was meant to be quoted from the person i replied to, i just failed to put "" around it and there for it looks odd.. but any reasonable person should be able to under stand it..
USA $14.6 Trillion USD Europe $17.96 Trillion USD Asia $19.19 Trillion USD
so you are correct except that Europe alone is larger in each count.. the US is much larger than Europe (~68%) and while Europe is larger in population (~92%) it is just a little larger in GDP (~23%) and not as much as it should be given the number of people - then Asia is the oddity.. dwarfs both US & Europe in size and population.. but apparently are not very productive.
If Iran knowingly intentionally planned and caused an oil spill in the straight - i would be exceptionally surprised if the UAE didn't bomb the crap out of them without the US having to even say a word. While i'm sure they would love to up the oil price - i doubt they want an environmental disaster along with it.
the pay by the line COBOL contract jobs dried up.. now they are actual jobs in maintenance mode.. It isn't a growing field but rather one that has openings via attrition.
yeap - that is more common in process plants than people would like to believe.. people know how to do it - they just don't know why they are doing a particular step/task - only that they need to.
having a product in hand and knowing how to build it are completely different things. I'm constantly in and out of plants that make products you can buy in stores in bulk.. but they all have a very strict no camera policy - and we have to sign NDA's because it is their process for building the products that is the important secrete.
find an average product in your home.. a light bulb.. a pen.. a drink in the fridge.. all things you can buy - all things you your self MIGHT be able to make - even though you understand how it works and what is needed.. i doubt you have any idea how to make them in 100's or 1000' per min/hour. (not that these rocket motors are made at that rate, but if they where they would be a hell of a lot cheaper, see model rocket motors)
i would be surprised if Iran was dumb enough to attack and oil tanker.. sure it would be a great photo op.. but for the surrounding countries it would be an environmental disaster - and completely Iran's fault.. if nothing it would pit the other countries against them..
no - moving a domain is easy - moving name servers isn't.. if you host your own name servers then it is is only a matter of few minutes to move your domain registrar
considering that 62 miles is considered sub orbital space flight and 100 miles is considered LEO
and note that other than the moon missions - ALL human space flight has been in LEO or less..
i'd take that for 1944.. 109 miles achieved and a max of 128 miles (as max on vertical launch) that with a little more work (and again not a world war) they would have easily gotten there.
So the V2's did make it to space - not a full orbit.. and there was a version of the V1 designed to carry a person.. had they not been in the middle of a world war - and given a few years.. yea i bet they would have had bot down just fine..
RTP is getting hit hard - not so much in the tech sector but in all others.. while the tech sector isn't exactly growing here.. overall we are weathering this better than most - but we are by no means booming.
i went and reread the patent it's self and yes windows mobile could do that.. place a call and you have a dial pad.. once on the call hit the widows/menu button and open something else.. notice at the very top next to the time a phone icon that is not present when there is no phone call.. tap it and you go back to the dialpad/phone interface..
if i'm correct they only use a sandforce controller the 520 (for SATA3 support) not the 320.. also the problem he is referencing is the sanforce SF-2200 controller
the Intel 320 drives use an Intel controller - and while they did have the 8mb issue on power loss (and only rarely) they released an updated firmware to prevent it. at no point where they blocked by some agreement with sandforce to resolve an issue that is no longer an issue (firmware issued 9/1 so 3 months ago).

Reality
Land Mass:
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=land+mass+USA+vs+Europe
USA 3.719 million mi^2
Europe 2.227 million mi^2
Asia 18.46 million mi^2
Population
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=population+USA+vs+Europe
USA 309 million
Europe 595 million
Asia 4330 million
Economic Activity???? (i just used GDP)

USA $14.6 Trillion USD

i'm not the AC but i agree with you it should be hope not faith..
and reading your comment i was thinking of Google scientists playing Limbo with real people
*watch for the bear trap*

yeap - that is more common in process plants than people would like to believe.. people know how to do it - they just don't know why they are doing a particular step/task - only that they need to.
but we are determined to do it faster stronger better

they will just add it as a rider on the next defense funding bill that will be needed for naval exercises in the middle east.

and if their goal was to orbit rather than bomb London - how long do you think it would take for them to figure out how to do a retro rocket burn?
on that same note - normal "discovery" processes allow too much time and opportunity for people to cover their tracks.

according to the first paragraph .. it was the "first known human artifact to enter outer space" (with a citation too).
also for fun..

if a hurricane was a threat to a reactor design then it never should have been built.. hurricanes really are not that damaging..

so yea there is a lot of prior art for this
then just reference windows mobile.. it could do it also starting in 2000

to be honest giving history and track record.. i wouldn't hold a flaw from OCZ against Intel by any means.. their products are apples to oranges.
if it's web base and only works with IE8 i wouldn't call it "software" but rather a bandaid
(although I don't think recycling plastic is so simple as melting it down).
that is completely dependent on the type of plastic you are using
why pay to develop a product when your customer will? i think it's part of their vision, much like the government defense contractors.
