i fully agree. the only thing i like about it is the javascript debuging - but even that has it's draw backs - oh and the dom tree browser, i have to wonder if they even tried it before shipping it out
unless the pavement the drive through is on is publicly owned and maintaned or the estabilishment has signs posted saying not to do it the best they could do is get you for wreckless endangerment of others but then ONLY if you didn't have your hazzards on and they could prove it.
then look up the history of Presidential Directives and what in history they have changed including overruling the supream court - (freeing of slaves, the march of tears, WWII jap camps to name a few)
then ask - why - if it isn't to be used, was it passed at all?
then realize that economy is listed
"(b) "Catastrophic Emergency" means any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions; "
and just look around..
and again ask.. if it isn't to be used then why was it put in place?
For anyone who is going to respond to this.. please read it in full first.
i'm glad i'm not the only one who noticed that.. while she did very well compared to early interviews.. saying she "won" is complete crap.. all she did was add drama to things and put in little fear remarks when no one had the chance to question her on them.. such as the closing.. i wonder where she gets off saying we are all going to lose our jobs if democrats are elected..
that isnt' voter fraud.. it might seem underhanded to you but it isnt' fraud.. if the law allows them to register and vote at the same time without proof of addres.. then fine.. now if they where picking these people up and driving the same group around from state to state and had them vote more than once - that would be fraud.
that is not fraud but rather people getting other people to vote.. the people they picked up had a choice who to vote for.. and who knows who they did.
if your going to try and make someone look bad - atleast pick something that isn't a lie
yea i have been thinking about doing that.. but i'm just so tired when i get home.. i might have to play with that this weekend.. or sleep.. humm can i do this in my sleep? j/k
what would be considred consumer grade wireless equipment can't hold a stick to true enterprice level equipment.
you talk about your wifi dropping out - hey i have the same thing with my WRT54G... but all of the aironet equipment i use never has issues.. but hey my 54g was 50$ compared to 800$
i remember growing up.. a couple of friends and I found out a local computer store had the same policy.. we didn't work there but we went diving there.. we also found that their techs would label "bad" perfectly good things just so they could get them - this helpd use alot when we where caugt diving by one of the techs - we got first dibs and they didn't call the cops on us.. although for a bit the pickings got slim.. but it was a great find till the store closed down.
on top of fragmentation - if you set it to "let windows manage" instead of setting a fixed pagefile size windows has a very very bad habit of only allocating what it needs at the current moment with no flex space..
Meaning..
evry time it swaps something to disk it has to look up and allocate more space (this causes the fragmentation and takes time)
every time ti swaps something from disk to memory it frees up the space for the File system (takes even more time and opens others things to fragment by releaseing things if 4kb peices)
in the even that it is a true swaping of pages.. it will allocate space on disk then write from memory to disk the current page then read from disk the page it wants then it frees the space on disk.. so not jsut swaping memory but eating disk time to do it.
having windows manage pagefile is just asking for slower preformace if windows ever decieds to swap.. which it does alot even if you arn't running alot of programs that eat memory as windows likes to do system and program cacheing - so you run somethign and quit.. windows will leave it in memory so it doesn't have to read it back next time.. only issue is it doesn't treat this special compared to other things and will page this cache just like anything else..
if you set a fixed size.. then all of the allocating and freeing of disk space goes away.. which makes swaping alot faster in windows.. not to mention that it helps prevent fragmentation of the swap space.. which just compounds the speed issues
i never said they will disappear.. they just will not be kept up in the development part to be on par with cloud solutions.
take maping and getting driving directions - there used to be (10 years ago) a slew of software packages for sale each with it's own way of doing things - with it's own set of features.. then came mapquest.. then google maps then live maps.. and they where free... made all the little software packages kinda pointless to an extent.
take MS's offerings for the PDA.. before the live maps.. pocket streets was by far one of the best mapping software for PDA's.. and it was expensive.. now if you can get wifi or if you have 3g on your pda you can just install live maps on it.. it gets updated is free and far more advanced than their current pocket streets is.. same company that has software in the same spot diffrent tech.. and they have already started to lag behind in dev of the standalone.
nothing is going to cause the standalone to "disappear" but as more and more people start using the net solutions they support for the development of the standalone is going to drop.. and there for the standalone isn't going to be able to keep up, sure you can drop back to it later.. but in 15 years there just might be some feature set that is only avaliable via net and there is no standalone solution for it, atleast that is of the same quality and usability.
the only issue with your argument is that the standalone is always going to be there.
say in 15 years they have come so far with web apps and always connected that most people decied to use it isntead of the standalone.. the standalone is going to lose development.. or be poorly developed.. and therefor will not be there when they decied to start charging
personaly i juse use WMC - it does the guide well - no fee autoupdates - and is easy enough for my wife to use withouth ever having to ask me how to do something.. that alone is far worth it>>
i can't tell you the last time we watched TV as it was broadcasting.. she jsut has it set to record what ever she wants and goes for it.
if i had some of these that where POE then i know places at locations i could hide them.. rather than be a webserver i would use it to run other services. could be useful to have a device which you plug in that would run and map the network connected to it.. then phone home and deliver results..
not that i would use it without permission - but rather something small and cheap i could put some place and let it monitor things and report back
if i offer up a service.. that i run(serve) where i am and is legal for me to do.. and you want to partake in it.. but it happens to be illegal to do where you are..
why should i be punished if you do it? i mean really? think about it..
on top of that if they would redo ssl so thatyou can support host headers that would allow allot of consolidation of webservices/sites by farm hosters..
personaly i think we are all just too lax about dealing with IP's..
if they could get one in the 20k maybe the 30k mark i know alot of people that would be intrested in them.
saddly i don't think it an issue with them getting orders but rather fulfilling them.. i mean really.. how many have they put on the road??
that is one of the best ones i have seen in a while..
and if we stick some math ones in we might keep the kidds off too.. it's a win/win
(i have mod points and would have modded you +ins but it doesn't seem to want to work today)
thats just good hygiene

you joke.. recently my bank replaced the keypad (not the whole thing just the keypad) on the Drive through ATM with a braille one..
the only thing i have to say is

"does anyone actually choose to use Lotus"
if refering to IBM i reallllllllllllly doubt it
but this Lotus i would be happy to choose to use - if someone else doesn't mind paying for it http://www.lotuscars.com/

yeap.. and this is why this is "new for nerds" someone spent some time on this.
i would love to know how they went about it - seems like it would be an intresting read
if not - i bet they are now
