Of course it's a conspiracy - but an inevitable one: it is not possible to feed billions of people with animal derived products rich in fat/protein and low in carbohydrates, as it would be natural for us. Feeding and sedating them with lots of sugar works though. Throw in "scientifically proven" food pyramids - and 10 billion on this planet are easy to maintain! The side effects will be managed: food and pharma industries will sort it out together.
If you would visit those countries, you'd see that the result is no surprise at all: 1) Canada: a sane "pickiness" concerning food, imported from France (not from England;-) 2) Mexico: most people switched from their typical culture food to US style products (either imported or manufactured locally), or at least added plenty of soda to every meal. Number 2 happens in all "3rd world" countries - very poor people being very fat. Previous posters already wrote it: it's the processed carbohydrates, and them being ubiquitous and cheap.
Dear submitter, I was about to write a lenghty post, but this AC's comment sums it up already. My opinion: stop recording, don't feel obligated to do so. Media of her looks and sounds are irrelevant. Do things together, memories in your and your family's brains are what count. With time they will fade, but the core - your love for her - will always remain.
Isn't this a "worse" paradox than the grandfather issue? I mean, if travelling in time would be possible, all the future must have happened already, because there would be no universal "now".
What if you kill the grandfather of someone else unrelated to you? Or many grandfathers? I'd say that either our idea of causality is wrong (mind boggling), or travel back in time is impossible. OTOH, traveling one-way into the future seems more plausible.
Please publish all of your employee's internet connections from the past 3 months. This should include all connections from their family members as well. Once you complied, we can discuss your idea. If you don't, that plan of yours is just premature and unnecessary.
but these studies try to convince us that this is the *only* reason that Bittorrent exists
I guess it's not "us" (the users) they try to convince, instead I think it's like that:
1) MPAA+RIAA fund a study about torrent usage (*) 2) Study uses top torrents only, doesn't produce correct statistics 3) Legislators are now convinced: torrents are a piracy tool only, and ISPs are ordered to block all torrent traffic 4) "Profit!" say the consultants ---- (*) this is just a guess, no citation available at this point
I see 6 great aircraft & space related stories on/. at the moment, but the single Apple story has way more comments than all these combined. Go figure...
I think it's fascinating, and at the same time unsettling: We are only just starting to explore the inner workings of ourselves of all which is invisible to the naked eye. The interlocked control systems of digestion, metabolism, immune system and hormones are far from understood. In fact, we don't know shit.
Health problems are often subtle, and frequently masquerade as something else.
So true. In that context, take the hyped health benefits of margarine as just one example of how selectively quoted studies and misused statistics made millions of people eat happily cancerogenic transfats for decades. If you read about this issue, you'll find that our knowledge of the metabolism is still limited, but it doesn't stop the food industry to push their products as healthy. So in the case of GM foods, those proclaiming that they are harmless or even beneficial don't have the slightest clue about the long term effects.
So, if you cross the event horizon, time doesn't exist or is infinitely fast - which means you live forever. Then, as you hit the singularity, you are transported back to the begin of the (some?) universe. Fascinating.
Excellent comment. I'd like to add that the software business has another really specific characteristic which is unique among all product businesses: the customer pays for a product which has flaws, which (perhaps) will be (sometime) adressed by the vendor. Isn't it hilarious?
I use gmusicbrowser as well. It's Perl based, but surprisingly fast, even for 10,000+ song libraries. I love the flexibility of the GUI, configurable from dozens of features (for a big home PC monitor) to ultra-simple (for a small netbook LCD), and the fact that you can select the backend players yourself. The whole library is a text file, crazy, but very flexible as well. Worth a try if you are looking for a player with library functions.

Excellent idea. "Black holes in orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
Using Wikipedia for fact checking. Pity there's no "ironic" mod.
No reason for that mod if the Wikipedia article has credible references.
(Yeah, I know I shall not feed 'em, but it's a often seen criticism.)
I just double-click on it. It works because I have Linkification installed.

I totally agree, but would like to elaborate on

I couldn't believe this, but it's true. Mod parent up more.
Considering that smokers pay in taxes far more than they cost society
Citation needed, calling BS, see thread's title.
In fact, the general consensus is that the correct word would be 'handegg'.

I wish I could mod this +infinity.
Please don't. The JavaScript on this page is slow enough already.
Simplification of historic events leads to wrong conclusions. I recommend post http://yro.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1683756&cid=32549066 as a quick introduction, along with http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/riseofhitler/elect.htm .

I agree. The joke is flying pretty slowly by now.
And if the physical boundary is 512 bytes, this won't happen.

Mod parent ... uhm ... +1 Creative.
