Interesting. Of the 5 countries with the lowest rates (ignoring islands and very small states), 2 drive on the left and 1 has highways without speed limit.
I don't know, it really is a country club in Africa, but I think Miguel went for "Tamarin", which is a type of monkey. But unfortunately this name is already occupied by a Mozilla project, which strangely is some kind of scripting language, and to his dismay is also being used as the name for a Java framework. *head asplodes*
And don't forget the move to e-mail from snail mail.
Unfortunately, that happened 15-10 years ago. Since then, the effectivity of the original internet protocols for transmitting information as text has become irrelevant in terms of bandwith/energy consumption. Now it's the use of multimedia and social networks which consumes most of the energy, and this got added to all our other media consumption.
While this would be a big problem, the effects on humanity of an ice age would be much more catastrophic. I'm wondering what the political reaction on news of a cooling earth would be.
UT players quite often fantasize about "superior than quake". You know why quake players don't talk about that? Because they're busy playing. I had all UT titles, sold them soon. Yes, they're prettier. But I certainly did not enjoy the gameplay, nor the childish online opponents. Of course, YMMV.
I skimmed TFA, and it's important to note that scientific base research (for new pills, procedures, etc.) is not the issue here. This is about studies, i.e. field testing of large numbers of patients, and the (wrong, causation != correlation, etc.) interpretations that are made public afterwards. Funny enough, until recently, criticising the official results of medical studies was seen as conspiracy theory by those in power in medical circles.
Sounds funny, but at that speed uptight Germans in Passat Diesels will pass you on your left, while nervously trying to explain through signs that your engine is kaputt.
Not all open source software is written by businesses.
Shouldn't that be "Open source software is almost never written by businesses"? Most (all?) OSS projects start out by someone programming a tool for himself, and sharing it in case someone else finds it interesting.
This is an essential observation, an yet it is ignored almost always. The people complaining about Linux as not usable are ALWAYS people who have used Windows for years before.
Year of the Linux desktop? For me it's since 1999. For my parents (total computer illiterates) it's since 2002. For the general Windows user it most probably will be never, and who cares?
Seconded. If one needs specialized commercial applications (this includes games), Windows is a must. If generic bundled software (for email, web, photos, etc.) covers one's need, Linux and other OSs are options on an equal level. The decision then can be based on things like security, price, previous user experience, etc.
The output of "lsof -i | grep skype" looks pretty P2Pish to me.

I have *facebook* in AdBlockPlus. Quick and dirty...

PayPal - Be greedy.
Wikileaks - Be there.
Oracle - Be arrogant.
SAP - Be a PITA.
IBM - Been there, done that.
Novell - 'been nice while it lasted.
Erm. It's /. - we'll need a car analogy.

In Soviet Russia, Godwin posts YOU!

PLEASE MOD UP PARENT, most insightful comment in thread.
Eating insects, mammals or vegetables? Minor issues in humanity's future. The "big picture" must be analyzed.
I'd replace the first word "Even" with "Especially" in parent's very true post.

Insight. Logic. Sanity. Common sense. Your message is full of these things, and therefore not appropriate for the decision process of the management.
> anything to get me away from an LCD screen
I agree. I use CRT monitors at home.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Updating the nationwide electrical grid, including the ability to connect decentralized producers (solar in the south, wind in the north)?

In North Korea, Internet registers YOU!
Excellent comment, pity it's AC, please mod up...
