  2. Didn't Dell do the same thing? on Why Apple Backed out from India? · · Score: 1

Didn't Dell (or maybe Gateway?) pulled out of India a while back? If memory serves, there were a lot of consumer complaints about the customer service. I belive the main problem was a language barrier.

Perhaps Apple felt they would hit the same problem and reconsidered? I guess maybe they're learning from another company's mistake... If this is the case, it's nice to see some corporate / organizational intelligence, even if that particular phrase is an oxymoron.

  3. Labels v. Pimps on How iTunes Hurts Weird Al · · Score: 1

When it comes down to it, record labels (with regard to their margins on digital music) are worse than pimps. Provided that old classic movie Nightshift is anything close to the reality of the skim pimps usually take, the regular pimp is more reasonable than your average record label.

Artists basically sit down to negotiate a contract with Label A. Their choice of record labels/distributors is limited, as the major ones are all RIAA members. So the average artist is basically going to have to negotiate in an oligopolistic environment, much like The World v. OPEC, and we all get bent over the barrel, then Big Oil and governments ride the train on us.

With today's technology, artists can record their own tracks. If Sabastian Bach (formerly of Skid Row) can do this on his laptop (I was flipping thru channels and landed on VH1's "SuperGroup"), I think other artist can too.

Personally, I can't wait until the RIAA and the recording labels start folding and they become more reasonable. Nothing is better than forcing a company's hand with revenues.

  4. molasses tidal wave v. beer tidal wave on Stupid Engineering Mistakes · · Score: 1

Well, that measily 15 foot wave of molasses might have caused some chaos in Boston, but recently I watched an episode of Modern Marvels on the Discovery Channel on beer and breweries.

Apparently, a brewery in the UK back in the 1800's or early 1900's had a storage tank burst, sending out a 25 foot wave of beer. 8 people died (you know, if you're gonna go...), several were injured. Then a crowd moved in and started drinking the beer with their cupped hands.

  5. sure off the meds, but still smokin something on Boot Camp For Suckers? · · Score: 1

Okay, this article is so completely baseless, not even researched, that it has to be a joke. Maybe his wife left him for another woman, maybe he's being harassed by a male co-worker, or maybe he's the one harassing. This article is so worthless that it just sits there to goad people into ranting back at him.

comparison of image rendering between a desktop/workstation v. MacMini... apples v. oranges? He's probably thinking of a nice $5k PC system with a brand spanking new top o' the line graphics card.

"no worries." Australian, I first heard it from Mick Dundee in a mildly entertaining movie.
tatoos, body piercings, they've been around since at least 5000+ years ago. Even the Iceman they found in the Alps had tatoos.

Modding PC cases, kinda reminds me of tricked out Honda Civics. It's like hanging a crystal chandelier in a run-down frat house. You know someone is going to knock it, projectile vomit on it, or the house will be demolished within a year. True Story: I saw someone sneeze and puke at the same time, and they managed to get the vomit on the ceiling (middle of the aisle) of the school bus. Hell of a site, but I got off the bus using the emergency exit at the back.

I know I was smart enough to get a Mac. After several years and countless hours of solving hardware/software problems just to get my PC to work nicely, I had enough, even running Linux, it ticked me off. Switched to Mac for my day-to-day and even some development work (what's better than unix under the hood?), and now I have more free time, which pleases the g/f. Though it does leave me more opportunity for Stupid Male Mistakes to piss her off. So for that, I blame Apple :-)

Here's to going blind with 30" AC Displays, and going deaf by my iPod.

  6. pilots and cancelled TV on Can iTunes Resurrect Old Time TV? · · Score: 1
    Pilot episodes/movies:

The networks have pilots made all the time, they (and others) are investing in them, and most of the time they don't pass muster with their review board. Why not put them on the cheap rack on the iTunes store? Perhaps if the board doesn't give a pilot a solid thumbs up, put it on iTunes, see how it does. Make a whole section for pilot movies/shows.

Sometimes, I just want to get a sense of what small screen hollywood is entertaining these days as possible entertainment for the masses next season. Like, NBC, the family oriented network doing "My Name Is Earl", can't say I was expect it. This would allow the networks additional feedback.

    Cancelled TV:

You know the shows, the ones that didn't hack it, or suffered at the hands of network stupidity. The shows that have no chance to make it to DVD, and probably not even playing on a network that gobbles up old shows. There's always a fan for the show, and to pick it up on the cheap iTunes rack would be great. These show are probably lucky if they made it to a full (20+ episode) season. While those full season shows might show up on some obscure cable channel, the less fortunate ones are never to be seen again.

For example, "Action" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206467/), I'd love to be able to see the episodes I missed. Just to watch a supurb rant that Jay Mohr goes on against a hypocritical senator would be excellent.

Who knows, maybe this would help those shows that got cancelled by the networks get some extra life out of them, perhaps enough to put in a pure internet TV season, maybe to wrap up loose ends for the fans. "Farscape" comes to mind before they did the mini-series to wrap it up.

  7. my former boss on Is Your Boss a Psychopath? · · Score: 1
