Always move on to another job when you'll be sorely missed at the present one. I've found it's easiest to find a new job while you already have a good job. It sucks to move on only to have mgmt say, "Good Luck!". I like to leave'em crying.
He struck me as having a disdain for authority and a dislike of hierarchy for the sake of hierarchy. I would think he's highly creative with a touch of genius. The proof is in his filesystem.
I'm much the same way -- well, except I'm a dumbass.
Hey...it's me again. I'm so stoned right now...I'm reasoning why I wouldn't like a desktop like that...
It's like, everything you'd need while using the computer is right there within a quick scroll-click. While this has a superior "star trek"-like efficiency about it, it makes a computing session less satisfying. There's no awakening of the primal hunting instincts...you need a calc....quick, open up a shell, or find that icon with the gui...a slight delay before the kill, if you will.
I never get it....the past two presidents have both tried Marijuana and/or cocaine -- you'd think they'd both know that neither is worth the billions of dollars spent annually to stop the inflow.
Actually, like the PATRIOT act, US drug law is aimed at getting around personal property and privacy rights of US citizens.
Think I'm kidding? Take a drive through south Georgia with $20,000 cash in your car -- and get pulled over for somthing innocuous like speeding. Chances are if you are some fat, white bumpkin, the deputy will ask to search your car. If you say no, they will become suspicious and get a warrant. If you agree, they will find the money and automatically assume it is profits from illegal drug activity, unless you can prove otherwise.
Once confiscated, you have to prove the source of the money before what's left (yes, what's left) will be returned.
Also, these laws are passed at a time when we have more folks incarcerated for consensual crimes than in any other point in the history of the republic.
Let freedom ring. Yeah, whatever.
Plus cookies, the way the original poster was suggesting that they be used is part of the web standard!!!!
He's not lazy for utilizing an existing standard. The fact that the environment has changed may make the standard obsolete (effectively), but he's not lazy...just in need of a reality check.
IANAL, but I wonder if MS opens itself up to legal trouble by publicly saying something that contradicts the 50,000 word EULA that we're supposed to accept before using their product.
Hell I don't know what half of that crap means except it seems to be saying, you pay us money, we give you software, all other bets are off. The end.
This is just another confirmation that I made the right decision when I dropped Windows completely. I've never looked back.
It's these types of moves that make even their dedicated user-base go "ugh". Microsoft keeps adding "features" that are not in the best interests of the users. I don't see the same reaction to Apple by it's users.
Microsoft's products cater to third party businesses (such as DRM via Media Player, or now this move to protect their recent investment/acquisition).
At this point, Windows (the OS) should be free to the pubic -- it could easily be paid for by the outside interests who seem to have so much influence!
Then, if the public use it, at least they won't be paying for the privilege of getting screwed!
