How about the Megaherz Myth then?

  2. MTV is mistaken on Microsoft and MTV to Launch Music Service · · Score: 2, Insightful
forgot to say in my other post:

MTV is very much mistaken. 90% of their viewers either want an iPod or have one. Hell, almost every hiphop video bling-blings an iPod around. "Urge" seems to block Macs and iPods. All very lovely, but MTV fails to recognise their target market if you ask me.

  3. Another killer? on Microsoft and MTV to Launch Music Service · · Score: 2, Insightful
Right until now, not a single iPod-killer has killed an iPod (yet). My take is this is because of the integration between iPod and iTunes plus the ease of use that comes out of this. One-click == "buy and put on computer and on iPod". Or indeed one-click == "rip this entire CD and put on computer and on iPod including correct tracknames".

Will the combination of a music network and a software company that does not make MP3 players beat this? Sounds more like massive advertising opportunities rather than building an iPod/iTunes killer.

    2. If all US pron was to be put on .xxx domains, I for one would be the first to claim the now-free porn.com domain from within a non-US country and get rich by selling porn.

    3. The definition of "porn" has been undecided and vague for about 500 years. Go and try outlaw "porn" to special domains, and see where medical images, scientific articles about reproduction and images of animals having sex have to go.

  7. waste of time and bytes on A Continued Look at Linux vs Windows · · Score: 2, Informative

Linux is now going through what Mac OS has been going through for years:

People --including well-educated techies-- have misconceptions based upon things that happened in the past and keep those in mind for ever. For instance: about the Mac people still say "it's got weird connectors and you cannot exchange files with Windows". About Linux the same thing, people still say "you have to compile and tweak everything yourself before it works" and "no software available" for both.

Now... articles such as TFA are NEVER going to take those prejudices away. They're just plain zealotry that focuses on the wrong things. Please stop "proving" that OS A is better than OS B by comparing them. Try and focus on taking away those old misconceptions that are in people's heads.

  8. Re:Conflicting Numbers on iTMS Moving Up The Sales Charts · · Score: 1

I guess NPD are counting tracks sold to build their chart, and EMI are counting cash earned by selling tracks, which can of course lead to entirely different percentages and are not directly comparable.

sorry to go offtopic but how did they get in contact with the iTMS and how did they get their music into it without a record deal?

  10. what does it mean? on Grass Grazing In Dinosaurs Confirmed · · Score: 1

From reading TFA, I think this only tells us something about grass, less about dinosaurs. The grass that was found in dung indicates the grass existed and was eaten in the period the dinosaur lived.

BUT... does that mean all of the species ate grass? Couldn't this be just the one, or perhaps a few individuals that, say, accidentally ate some grass for some reason, like "mad-dino's-disease"?

  11. I'm really wondering... on Ignore Vista Until 2008 · · Score: 1

...could Vista be Microsoft's final blow? I mean a real breakthrough in decreasing MS's marketshare and masses of companies and consumers saying "OK That's it! I'm going Mac or Linux from now on!" Slashdotters perhaps already KNOW it's going to be crap, but will Vista (including delays and flaws it will have) be the eye-opener for less savvy people?

  13. Doesn't anyone listen to mr. Jobs anymore? on Video iPod Apple's First Bad Move? · · Score: 5, Insightful

As Jobs has stated 3 times; video is a BONUS on top of a normal music player. the iPod has been, is, and will be a MUSIC player. Just like the additional funtionality of being able to display photo's from the photo library, or calendars and contacts, it can now display video from the video/movies library. It is NOT A VIDEO iPod. It's a music player that also happane to play some video formats. It is NOT a dedicated handheld video machine. When Apple built calendars and contacts into teh iPod, did ANYONE headline "Apple's PDA iPod a bad move?"

  15. Sorry, no can do. on Alternatives To Office For Mac OS X · · Score: 2, Insightful

No flame intended, but I think NeoOffice/J is utter crap. Functionality is great (if one thinks duplicating MS features and functionalities is the way to go; personally I am horrified to find the preferences in the "tools" menu, amongst 100 other usability flaws) but the user interface just is an exact copy of the Windows 95 UI. My eyes hurt when using NeoOffice/J. This just does not give me the user experience I expect as a Mac user. This combines a Windows UI with Windows usabilty. I'm not a Windows user you know, I don't want this. But I appreciate the work, and see the importance of alternatives for MS Office. NeoOffice/J is just not there yet, and I'm hoping someone can someday create an Office suite that offers more than being just an MS Office duplicate with an ugly UI.
