Just to back up the parent, TFA is not talking about one all-nighter, but does say that a few days on a "shift work" sleep schedule (whatever that is) has a dramatic effect. To me this reads as if it's more about getting poor quality sleep on a regular basis, rather than "missing sleep."
Bear in mind, the linked article is from CNN, and CNN is NOT known for their deep thoughts or complete, or even accurate, coverage.
The problem is the OP didn't say "suppressing access to natural means of alleviating symptoms", instead he said "suppressing access to natural cures." So, we're talking about natural cures that are suppressed, and marijuana is not an example of one of those, as the GP pointed out. Questions about whether or not other treatments are cures are not relevant.
By the way, this lower limit has increased dramatically in the last decade, from $1,500,000 in 2004. I have to agree with the parent, though, that if you're inheriting over $5 million you probably are not considered "middle class."
Exactly! Joel Spolsky's article details precisely what I was referring to. Based on the responses to my original post, I can tell this is a lie that many developers honestly believe!
Wait a second, what on earth is he speaking at SXSW for? Is he now considered an expert on national security? Typical sysadmin, thinking they know everything about how you should do your job, even if your job has nothing to do with administering systems.
It's perfectly legal here. As an employee, you are using company provided hardware and have signed an employment agreement stating you will only use it for business purposes. Chances are, your personal bank account, facebook page, or whatever else are not part of business purposes. If they are, then why should they be kept private from the company you're doing business on behalf of? If they aren't then why are you using company hardware & bandwidth to access them?
I may not like the fact that the company can do this, but they do have every legal right.
Where's the CSS to make it black/red? Your emulation is foobar'ed.
I've noticed a lot of software guys who love to type "foobar" where they apparently mean "FUBAR" the military slang. I've not figured out if this is intentional, or if they've been so ingrained with "foo" and "bar" from their college days that they just can't tear themselves away from it?
I'd expect 10% of them to get HTML right and not wrong.
It doesn't say only 10% got the question wrong, it says 10% of them chose that answer. I think it's safe to assume that far more than 10% of the public don't really know what HTML is, but they might at least guess that it has something to do with computers.
Whoa now, that attitude is definitely not going to convince people to get vaccinated. The only thing it'll do is make them hate kids and people with kids even more. I have no responsibility to your children. That's on your own shoulders. If you're that concerned about me standing in line next to them at the supermarket, don't bring your kids to the supermarket and make sure you get your own vaccine.
I am, by no means, anti-vaccination (very pro, actually) but you need to sell this on the benefit to the individual getting that vaccine, and not try to put responsibility on their shoulders for everyone else around them. How many times have you met someone who responds positively to being called an asshole to their face?

The article isn't about whether you sleep at night or not, it's about whether you skip sleep regularly.

Well said.
Yes, I saw the new Jack Ryan movie, too. Thinking it has analogy to real life is pretty lame, though.
Just to support the parent's poorly worded claim, filing for estate taxes is only required in 2014 if the estate net value exceeds $5,340,000 in the US.

How so? They aren't losing anything out of their own pockets, and they certainly aren't losing anything they earned.

I think you're talking out of Uranus.
Most police already wear "body recorders" which capture anything audible while on duty.
"If we rewrite this from scratch, it'll be WAY better!"
Wish I had a mod point for you.
Good for you. I had trouble following it, and apparently the GP did too. Maybe you are the asshole.
I can't tell if you got the joke and tried to pile on, or didn't get the joke.
One must not generalize.
It's nice to see a couple of people at slashdot who are still willing to think critically instead of just jumping on the bandwagon. Thank you.

You don't pay for an airline ticket from your bank's website. That's not how it works. That's not how any of this works.

You must have a hard time dealing with intonation in spoken words.

I stand corrected, however the rest of my post is still valid.

Slashdot: I come for the science, I stay for the jokes. Sometimes the science is the joke, but I digress...
