I have thought about an expiration date based on the majority, a 51% majority could get like a 6 month law, 61% 2 years, 71% 3 or 4, etc.
But the problem is that legislators in all their wisdom would, upon having to renew about a dozen laws in a session, would just pass a resolution to blanket renew all of them and be done with it.
I'm told flash can be made to work, although I haven't tried it. It probably involves installing a second installation of 32 bit firefox, then flash into that. This is similar to how mplayer is working on my system, since a 64 bit mplayer can't use real, microsoft, or quicktime codecs.
Ati did release 64 bit drivers, I've been using them, but I haven't tested anything graphic intensive with them. But they do work anyways.

Java, no clue.
Say what you will, but gentoo is always on the cutting edge, and the community built around it is top notch.
I always enjoy reading installation instructions like for example mythtv.
They will have subsections:
Redhat... 100 lines of instructions
Debian... 150 lines of instructions
Gentoo... 2 lines, emerge sync, emerge mythtv
And it turned out it was about that easy, although getting my ati card working was another matter entirely.
That's just classy.
We do it for the chicks, of course.
Refusing to sit back and let the inevitable happen is what separates us from animals.
