Of course, you mean "available to all at someone else's cost," since nothing is free.
Indeed. Same as any public service. I don't know where you were going with that?
TANSTAAFL
Seriously people.
This isn't that difficult. A PRIVATE company can INVEST in research to gain a competitive advantage over another to promote their business in this wonderful capitalist (what's left of it) nation of ours. In most cases, taxing the entire (at least all the taxpayers) US population to fund "FREE" PUBLIC research is not that appealing. Nothing is FREE.
Consumers will gladly pay for the research with their dollars when they buy the product that resulted from the research, thereby rewarding the investment of private enterprise.
If you eliminate competition, you stifle innovation.
Does anybody know of any government (non-US) research projects that have changed the world? I'm struggling to come up with one...
For example, they know that some percentage (surprisingly large) will walk out the door, either in customer's or employee's hands (i call it shrinkage).
i thought 'shrinkage' was when a man goes swimming... and it's cold...

Oblig Seinfeld: "Not that there's anything wrong with that."
Is it just me, or does this sounds like a 'fastest gun in the west' trick...
The bigger problem would be listening to the duplicate submissions over and over and over again...
I always send it back blank with a note saying 'Here, you throw this away.'
Adapted from the late Mitch Hedberg.
"When someone hands you a flier, it's like they're saying, 'Here, you throw this away.'
Make them pay postage twice for sending me crap...
