I've used the rca hook up and the svideo hookup on the tv out of my geforce II. Looked about the same to me. I did notice what appeared to be a bit of noise on the rca line, but that was it. I think you underestimate the quality difference between vhs and dvd.
consoles used to be better game machines than pc's. Back when the apple//e was hot shit, nintendo had come out. I don't know anyone who would claim the apple was a better game machine than the nintendo.
The real change took place with the voodoo 3d accelerators. That was when the pc finally overtook the console.
My solution to this was to put multiple copies on the same disk. Usually when these disks have a problem it is just a small area, and not the whole disk, so mutiple copies on the same disk worked (for me).
If I had moderator points, I would have mod'd you up.
On a side note, is there a complex contraction for "I would have?" I mean, when speaking, I say: " I'd've " or phonetically "eye-dove". I don't think I'd've is a proper way to write it though.
I can't blame a presidential candidate for coming up with this stuff. They are trying to get elected here...and I think they are rail-roaded into some of these stupid ideas.
Soccer-mom's (and a lot of other people) want censorship, therefore both of the major candidates are going to support it. They are each trying to make it as palatable to their particular party line as they can.
I think that the libertarians have it right, the government should censor shit on public computers... but then again, why the hell is the government providing computers in the first place? That is, in my opinion, *NOT* the job of government. If you personally are into philanthropy, then you should feel free to purchase all the computers you want (with your money) and make them available to the public. But for pete's sake, don't take my money and do it.
Anyway, the point is, the libertarians are spouting a bunch of stuff that I think is the 'right' way for government to operate, but it goes against popular opinion and therefore the libertarians will have no chance. Both gore and bush know this. What makes it so terrible is that an opinions popularity does not make it 'right'.
Another point... bush is totally anti abortion, yet when asked about the ru-486 pill, he couldn't come out and say "No way, it is bad, I'm going to legislate against it if I can." He'd certainly never get elected then. So he just mumbled some crap about reducing the number of abortions taking place.
You don't change the government by changing a presidents policy, you change the government by convincing the People of the 'right' way to do things. When the 'right' way is the popular way, you will suddenly have major candidates (with a real chance of victory) supporting these ideas.
What exactly do they need to run on 'big iron'? I am curious. I can't think of anything offhand...but I don't know much about the hardware architecture of mainframes, and I don't know the OS philosophy used in the past.
The phrase 'reverse engineering' was not used properly here. Reverse engineering would be looking at a black box... feeding it a bunch of inputs and noting the corresponding outputs. Then, from scratch, you construct a circuit that will produce the same output from a given set of input.
What that article describes is someone copying the data that is used to 'program' these PLDs. That, my friends, is theft. And it is *NOT* reverse engineering. It is no different than taking a binary executable, changing a bit or two and publishing it as your own. That is *NOT* reverse engineering.
So anyway, give the article a break... they screwed up when they described the copying as reverse engineering. Aside from that, it seemed like a good article.
Let me preface this by saying: 1)This is a serious post...not intended as flamebait. 2)I never owned my own lego set as a child, although I always wanted one.
What is the fun in getting a mindstorm kit like this AT-AT. It is so specialized... I never much liked the specialized (non-mindstorm) lego kits either. I'd much rather have a generic building kit, or different sets of generic building kits. But they always seemed hard to find. There were lunar lander kits, and castle kits and what not, but a plain generic set of assorted rectangles was hard to come by.
I suppose you could cannabalize these specialized kits for your own projects. Is that what you guys like to do?
Actually you are both wrong. The first post was incorrect in saying the higher frequencies look like a square wave. That is pretty unlikely. It totally depends on your digital to analog converter. It would probably closely resemble a triangle wave.
As to the second person quoting some DSP book... digital to analog conversion is a one way process. Yes, yes, it is true that a set of samples from a band limited signal, sampled at twice the highest frequency content (probably) uniquely represents that signal... but that says nothing about reconstruction. Think about pgp signatures (I hope that is a good example). Perhaps that theorem is just referring to frequency content?
Draw a sine wave and a triangle wave of the same frequency and phase. Sample at twice this frequency with the first sample being the peak of the first triangle cycle... Whoa! look! the samples are exactly the same!
$900 for rent food and car is cheap. I live in tampa, fl... I am paying about $1400 rent food and car. I wouldn't guess that the cost of living in tampa is higher than seattle. I could be wrong though.
I haven't read the other replies to your message, so this may be (redundent -1).
Are you really that upset by seeing a less than stellar story posted on slashdot? "Who cares?" is exactly right. If you don't like the story, so what? I am sorry that you didn't have the self control to stop reading it and move on to something more interesting. Worse, you waste even more time with an less interesting, yet irritating, post.
I have a few moderator points left, but I chose not to use them here so I could ask you a few things:
Why does it bother you to occasionally see boring stories on slashdot?
Why do you insult the submitter of the story you don't like? Do you think their intent was malicious? Was it their goal to cause you boredom?
Why didn't you ignore the story? I do it all the time... works for me, that self control thing.
This is basically a PCI to PCI bridge. PCI has a lot more than 1.2 Mbps. a typical 66mhz, 64bit pci bus has up to 528Mbps. Note that Mbps != MBps. bits and bytes.
These people appear to have gone one further and gotten 1250 Mbps (bits) out of the 'pc' side of the bridge. The laptop side would be a bottle neck.
All that for $320. Wow, what a deal. I've got a bag of garbage in my kitchen I'll letcha have for about $320.

If this guy is serious, then that is too bad. He is not right in the head, and no amount of debate or argument can fix that.
so you are saying that a nefarious program can't update your motherboard bios?
Damn dude, I just about busted a gut on that one.
If I had moderator points, I would have mod'd you up.

I goofed, I meant 'the government should not censor shit on public computers' (yes I proofread it, but I still missed that one)

Your not liking (and the implied desire to stop) one sided views is actually a one sided view.
Point of view is a major component of what makes individuals unique.
And thus you prove his point.

Well even if it could, you would be limited by the refresh rate of your monitor.

I bet clinton would support it if it only applied to people earning over 50k or whatever.
Hey dudes in charge of slashdot moderation... how about a change to the system whereby a moderator is allowed to reply to a message [s]he moderates?
Often I'd like to give a reason for moderations I've performed.
my bad. Thanks for the correction.

chuckle. that was nicely put.
