"I'd find it hard to believe that the radio doesn't influence you at all..." I find it hard to stand to listen to the radio at all. Sometimes it makes me so angry, they play the same crap, over and over and over again, just for $$$, not for anyone's enjoyment at all! I only listen to the radio for certain shows on a college station.
If it were not for mp3s, I would not have bought 1/3 of my entire cd collection (legaly bought) simply because I would never have heard of the artists.
The big record labels find a formula and churn out "music" based on the formula. They cater to the lowest common demoninator. They also own the communications (eg. Time-Warner) and media which distributes this music to the consumer, telling them that it is cool. Now, this would never work if people weren't so fackin stupid as to believe what companies tell them! If there were no more stupid people, the radios would have to play good music for people to listen.
Do the world a favor and kill a stupid person today. And no, I don't mean take their life, I mean educate them so that they aren't so stupid!
Yeah, but how well would they do on Who Wants to be a Millionare? Thats the only fair way of judging people. If you can make it to a half-mil, you're fine in my book;p
Oh well, guess I'll have to go back and watch Pitch Black again, seeing as its the essence of everything that is good in a sci-fi movie.
Ok yes that is b.s. Pitch Black looked like it was made for the Sci-Fi channel. Dialog: bad Characters: fake Special Effects: The first half was shot through filters so off-color you were wondering if it was made for 3d glasses. And the 2nd half, well, it was *pitch black*, but those looming ominous objects certainly looked...like you couldn't see them. Action: wow, I hear aliens ripping humans apart! Too bad its so *pitch black* that I can't see it. Emotions Invoked: what's playing in the theater next door?
"When this happens, you will be able to say "I was part of that". " Yeah, I know this is a joke, but the prevailing attitude seems to be: "why not, a use will be found." Thank you to the person(s) who gave real examples.
I don't mean to be a pessimist, but how does figuring out OGRs help the net/society/world in any way? From the link, all I could find was "OGR's have many applications including sensor placements for X-ray crystallography and radio astronomy. Golomb rulers can also play a significant role in combinatorics, coding theory and communications. Dr. Golomb was one of the first to analyze them for use in these areas." Without delving into some deep theory, can anybody give an example?
"The madness will stop when you can store the sum total of every bit of information any intelligent being anywhere has ever recorded in something too small to be seen with the naked eye" and the BeOS can already handle filesizes that large. Scientific American says that the sum of all *recorded* information is about 100 petabytes, and the BeOS can handle 18,000!
"How many actually listen to FM radio now these days anyways except for maybe talk radio. " Anybody who drives his/her car daily for more than 20 mins. Every teenager I know. FM radio is here to stay, unless some kind of mandatory switch to digital is made (a la hdtv). Not everybody can afford a cd player in their car.
But Atlanta has MediaOne Cable, and while the service may be less-than-perfect, I hear no modem users complaining about how slow *MY* cable connection is (yes, I live in Atlanta)
hats off to all the overclockers and the companies that help the hobby (Abit especially). Dual Celerons is a wonderful hack. Kryotech also should get a mention for going the full monty and selling (not just making) the first 1ghz system by putting a refridgerator into a computer to make them go faster (a true hack if I ever saw one)
When its general OS-hacking, Hendrix and Santana will do. When its net programming (html, perl, sql, etc) then drum & bass is the way to go. When its democoding (what an amazing art form) then I need silence on the outside and a song in my head.
If you are really interested in knowing, there's a porno called The Uranus Project 2 which has the world's first porno shot in zero-g (using a plane a la Apollo 13)

....enjoys dancing, talking, long walks on the beach, and is not afraid to cry. Also likes to be ticked. Presently in good financial status.

"Not all are fit for 13-years old people." That's funny that you say that, cause I had read all but 3 of those books by the time I was 13.

I think it can all be summed up in this bedope article http://www.bedope.com/stories/0081.html

am I a fool whose browser doesn't want to refresh, or is the November issue not at the main site?
