just for your information the Russian space program was lead primarily by korolev, all the rockets pre-energybran(spelling?) were his when he died and gulshco took over in the 70's the space program really changed the face of Russian space exploration. It is impossible to hire them "legendary Russian engineers who kept the Russian space program alive on a shoestring budget"
Also you mentioned kerosene fuel and the x-prize in the same suggestion. First of all kerosene is used in liquid propulsion but the x-prize winners utilized a hybrid motor consisting of N2O (NOS, Laughing Gas) and HTPB (petroleum based substance often referred to as rubber). These hybrid rockets are much safer and easier to produce than liquid propelled rockets because the N20 and the HTPB are inert. Also hybrid technology offers a much simpler design then liquid propulsion, I would know I have built hybrid rockets, there is no need for a complex pump or specific mixing regions.
As for new technology you should check out NASA's electromagnetic plasma propulsion that offers an ISP of over 22000 seconds. It is truly amazing and is relatively simple and cheap (once they figure out the power issues...)
"Figuring a way to get payload into orbit cheaply should be the main mission." just to put into perspective how cheap putting something into low earth orbit can be, my high school class is launching a hybrid rocket 100,000feet lifting a Stanford ~35lb research package up for under $20,000.
Also most of NASA's R&D is already outsourced to private companies like Lockheed-Martin, Thiokol, Boeing, etc
What NASA REALLY needs to do is be allowed to operate without the influence of the public or the US government, most of those who affect the program really do not understand allot about it, this is why you see all the pork barrel spending in NASA.
i went and saw this movie opening night in san antonio texas. Me and my friend were dressed up as sith lords but no one else at the movies was dressed up.
Some of you may call this a blessing but i was seriously disappointed at the lack of star wars fanatics in the crowd.
hacker: Originally, a hacker was someone who made furniture with an axe. In computing slang it is a person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary. Also, one who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about programming. http://www.fas.org/news/reference/probert/PA.HTM
well if there after hackers there goes slashdot's readers.......
I am purchasing a new computer system and i am going with sli. What do you readers think would be better the asus 256 or the bfg 512? money really isnt a issue i just want the best performance and the card which will last me the longest. The reviews said that the reason that the 512 is not giving a huge boost could be driver related and games dont take full advantage of it. One thing though i want to be able to play quake 4 on ultra high settings.....
Also is the althon X2 or fx55/57 a better buy for gaming?
Thanks
I disagree with your statement
First of all as i stated this was a victimless crim as opposing to robing a store "How about those folks who rob a convenience store to show their security holes" When you rob a store you remove a tangable good that hurts the store and thus has a victim. However in this case no harm was done. You do not understand the basics of my argument and YOUR logic is flawed.
Second of all you stated that "lol that was great... you mean CRIMINALS" however they are only criminals in the sense that the broke a law on a technicality. in this case the law != morality and therefore i do not consider them a "criminal". Thats like comparing them to murders and calling them the same thing. Next time before you post such a thing you need to consider the issue at hand and not jump in the same boat as those who believe hackers=terriorists.

Funny I was going to post the same thing when I read this article.
This really shows the negative feelings that society holds for those who can "hack" systems. We really need sane laws that do not allow some one to be prosecuted if there's no harm done, or no intent / conspiracy to harm. Of course there will always be those who claim that these victimless crimes are detrimental to society. Its funny how if you look at computer related laws the government is ALWAYS biased to the business and not the individual. Intellectual Property Laws is a good example of this. I for one am tired of the government spending millions of our tax dollars prosecuting and punishing victimless crimes. From smoking marijuana to speeding to hacking computer systems the US government really needs to way the cost against the benefits. Seriously what will prosecuting these high schools really do for society? Discourage them from such things again? If there is no one to test the stability of a system it makes it ALOT simpler to break into the system. These victimless crimes are a pure example of were the ends to not justify the means and society is damaged do to the laws put in place. If these kids get jail time the government has to fork over $40,000 a year to take care of them. IMHO this money would be better utilized paying for the kids education in a high level computer science program.
the matrix anyone?
This new battery technology Paired with the ever growing technology in robotics and artificial intelligence the sci-fi thriller The Matrix doesnt seem so sci-fi
