No, we were going even further back to the Revolutionary War, but thanks for making your opinions known. So many Slashdotters are shy about expressing themselves.
The difference between a freedom fighter and a terrorist? Point of view.
With all due respect, there are some differences. Of course, we are free to make our own personal definitions as we wish, but terrorists are the guys that kill civilians, with full intent of causing fear, terror, and chaos. (Not to say the Continentals or patriots didn't do this to the British. I haven't heard such, but clearly it's not something we would be proud of.)
CouchDB was named after a real-world analog. When you buy things, you might bring them home and store them away in logical places, so you can find them again. Or, you might just throw it on the couch. The name stuck.
I see people replying "FUD" to every Slashdot story these days. I'm not sure what it means anymore. Oh, I know "Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt" - but it is how it's used in context that I don't get.
I first read this as "It turns on the electric car."... I thought "This must be the most bizarre thread derailing to environmental feel-goodism I've ever seen." Then I remembered this is Slashdot.

...the USA and Australia were both originally populated by criminals, slaves, and people the UK didn't want...
I was going to take exception to the "criminals" part, regarding the USA. Then I remembered that most of us were traitors.
They need to send Hilary Swank to the heart of the sun to get the solar poles straightened out.

Yes! Go frack yourself Obama! Oh we weren't talking about a regime that circumcised their citizen's right? Lock people without reasons or warrants?
I feel like I'm in an episode of The Sopranos. :)
"Cybercriminals Can Has Cheezburger"?

This is kind of funny, in light of your comment. Prominent text at the site (at this moment) reads :
So looks like "beta" might get a second chance.
I don't know anyone that believes the Earth is only 3000 years old, but I know a few who think 6000 to 10000 years

Yes, and those people are going to Hell.
They didn't predict the rain correctly yesterday here, that's why I believe those predictions are obviously incorrect.
And there's really no excuse. I can tell you yesterday's weather with 100% accuracy.*
* - Unless I didn't write it down.
It turns on the electric chair.

Watching The Walking Dead doesn't make me want to buy a Hyundai SUV.
No, but I do have the urge to buy a shotgun and a crossbow.
Nobody eats for free, except prison inmates. So maybe we can put those guys to work producing content?
Have you seen MSNBC's post-prime-time programming?
...and she's not a *new* shrew by any measure.
I'm not even sure they have computers. AFAIK, God may Hate Computers.
Does it support boolean operators? So that, you know, you could find 400-lb. naked guys kissing Taylor Swift and similar material?
Facebook "Graph Search" to the rescue!
The Bell Curve was published in 1994.
Well... most of them were published in the 90s, but a few were published in the 80s and 00s.
...a terrifying name...
I was going to say, I think Pandavirus is a pretty *cute* name!
What if... in the 40th year or so, someone knocks it over. Sorry! What would be the appropriate punishment? :)
Or "inequity", or "not like us", or "1%".
