In your other 3 examples, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the so called Somali "pirates" have been thoroughly solved as a problem. Both Iraq and Afghanistan are now liberated and governing themselves, and who even talks about the Somali pirate problem anymore? That's like saying Watergate isn't over yet.
...
This is going be controversial on Slashdot, but keep in mind that the initial military incursions against Iraq and Afghanistan must be considered successes. The later violence that marred the US occupation couldn't be solved with conventional military operations... at least not without inflicting a lot of collateral damage.
I'm amazed how uninformed you are..... Both witnesses for the defence and the pathologist testified that GZ was on the bottom. CNN discussed this extensively as well. I have no axe to grind either way, but I do get annoyed at people who have no clue.
I'm quoting this because someone modded it "Flamebait", but it's pretty much what I understood. If it's wrong, please correct. But this comment is far away from inflammatory.
There is a good chance that Obamacare was designed to fail. But it won't "fail back" to the way things were, but "fail forward" to a single-payer model. Which is what Obama wanted (I'm supposing), but thought it was politically a no-win.
Well he was just informing shareholders what was going to happen. I'm not sure I would characterize it as "complaining". So be sure to order your pizza, and recognize that the 14-15 cents is "baked in" the price. Since you have no problem with an extra $1.00, I'm not sure what the problem is.
Reminds me of a story a friend told me from way back when Magic Johnson first told the world about his HIV. (And yes this is an extremely tasteless joke, but that's not the point.)
A joke was circulating that went like this:
"Hey, did you hear that David Copperfield got AIDS?"
"Wow, no... I didn't know..."
"Yep. Got it from doing Magic."
So my friend told this joke to a guy he works with. This guy wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. My friend overheard him repeating the joke:
"Hey, did you hear that David Copperfield got AIDS?"
"Nope, I didn't know..."
"Yeah... He was fucking Magic Johnson!"
I had a job maintaining websites, which also included several custom web applications for B2B purposes. (The company was an affiliation of distributors and manufacturers that shared some data.) I was essentially the only IT guy. We were always developing new projects. It was pretty fun.
Then my direct boss at the office where I worked dropped out of the affiliation. I was giving an option of moving to the new office, and my direct boss also offered that I could stay on at his business (same physical location, but a distinct and different company). I didn't want to move, so I chose the latter.
Well the "new" job didn't have much for me to do. Basically I ended up doing a little support work (one sales guy couldn't read his email if his preview pane was gone... or minimized... stuff like that). Then I was asked to move stuff around, help with cleaning up, etc. I could see what was happening. My skills were languishing, and I was transitioning to general manual labor. I got another job pretty quickly (thankfully), and thanked them for all they had done. Don't let it happen to you.:)
Basically, they're saying JavaScript could be used at the OS level, the database level, and the presentation level.
Er, meant to say "server level", not "OS level". Possibly, when looking for a "full stack developer", you would also want someone knowledgeable in networking, too.
This topic reminds me of an old "SoftSide" article about a TRS-80 (4K, Level 1) that provided some "computer console" effects for Star Trek : The Motion Picture.
The $44,000 Star Trek! Game ( [sic] - the article's title does have the exclamation point, and the program is not really a game)
Program listing included. Some conversion will probably be needed for your new IMSAI, but I can't say for sure.
That part was a joke (my next sentence was "To be serious for a moment...").
It seems you can't say anything on a subject like this without being accused of sexism at some point. So I thought I'd immunize myself by saying it first!:)
It seemed to me that in the first paragraph he was approving of the situation, but in the 2nd he wasn't. That's all. It was probably more my inference than anything.

If it ain't broke ... fix it until it is!
"Collar" them, Minority Report style.
Actually, if this leads to something, it will be used by defense attorneys.
I agree; I was being facetious.

You got it straight from Slashdot, folks : do whatever the police tell you to do.

This is friggin' hilarious. Racist, but against Dick Cheney and capital punishment, so Slashdot lets him off with a single -1 mod. :)
Over at TIME, I paused to reflect upon the end of the once-booming category...
Tick-tock, TIME, tick-tock...
And Wednesday is your day in the barrel.

Please inform us of the Bush-driven legislation that mandated your HMO do this.
According to my Indian friends, when they go home to visit relatives the traffic drives on whatever side of the road they happen to feel like today.
Interesting. That's how they drive in Korea.
In Korea, the eldest gets right-of-way.
Saw this story from a dissatisfied Pebble backer just today:
Why I Cancelled My Pebble Smartwatch Order
For one thing, he didn't like them going straight to Best Buy (which was not a smooth launch either apparently) while backers were still waiting.

I swear, Slashdot only posts PHP stories to troll for negative comments...

Not sure where the uncertainty is. Says right there - January 1, 2015.
Well what was it a week ago?

You're very clever, young man, very clever... but it's turkeys all the way down.

This is his third one this week. Is he trying to impress someone?
Whoever it is, maybe she'll hook up with her Womens' Studies professor, and Soulskill can get on with his life.
