Actually, yes. If you were to somehow get some travelling cancerous cells from someone else's body into yours, your immune system wouldn't recognize those cells, and would attack it, thinking it's an infection. Which it is.

You really don't need to go to that extent. The flu is a virus. That means that it's up to your immune system to knock it out. That means that you don't need to eat some nasty concoction to help you feel better once you're sick. The best bet you have is to eat things that will boost your immune system--BEFORE you catch something. The reason you feel bad when you're sick isn't because of the illness, what you fell is your own immune system fighting back. It causes fever, aches, soreness, etc. The best way to fight the flu is to give your immune system the tools it needs to fight the flu before it becomes a problem by proliferating in your system. So drink some orange juice, get plenty of rest and try to keep your stress levels from being highly elevated for more than 2 days at a time. Those are REAL flu remedies.

I think there's a good reason that there aren't more females in the sciences I'm a female and a scientist. In a female dominated field. From what I've seen (and heard anecdotal evidence about) women are more attracted to the biological sciences, whereas men are more attracted to the mechanical sciences, CS and physics and engineering. Interesting point, I took a survey in a class of 65 people, of which over 55 were female, and there was an unusually high number of females with boyfriends/fiancees/husbands in the computer sciences.

Talk about a bad anaology.... The only way those comparisons actually WORK is if you change them to these: "What if 12 guys the world over allowed for the self-organization of a world-wide wave of candy theft, but the store always had as much candy as before the theft..." and "What if some rapist infected with AIDS went aroundraping women, but actually never touched them nor interfered in their lives in any way..." Hmmmm....nevermind. When you actually change the anologies to TRUELY reflect the situation, it is all to easy to see the "piracy is like theft/rape" crowd are just bleating the party line rather than THINKING.

They had STDs, which weren't present in Europe until the explorers returned to Europe with them. Getting back to the subject, it's important to preserve as many species as possible because we can't forsee the future, and who knows if elephants will be perfect for the environment after some catastrophic event, or even the key to the survival of our or another species. Additionally, farming animals isn't terribly smart either because once an animal is farmed it is bred to produce the most and best quality of whatever it is the animal is being farmed for. This is bad, because you need the whole gene diversity thing for a species to possibly be able to adapt to new circumstances.
