i watch tv for entertainment, and the more selective i am in what i watch, i increase the quality of entertainment i receive. this increases the chance for me to receive a side-effect of entertainment...happiness.
to me entertainment does not equal happiness; it's just a causeway that sometimes leads there. social or solitary. it does not matter. most people like to read in a room vacant of human annoyances, so they can be fully immersed or entertained with whatever book.
tv, music, movies, sports, eating, exercising, and beating prostitutes with bats are all forms of entertainment, and an extrapolated purpose for them all is a level of escapism.
maybe if shit never oozed out of this planet, leaving us all eternally happy, we would never be in need of stupid things, like the Arts.
Surviving might be all that humans have left to do once they recklessly and completely deplete the earth's natural resources to further corporate wealth and greed. Then, humans will have to live in their concrete shelters and biodomes, or atleast figure out how to synthesize every single resource the earth gives them naturally.
We must start treating the earth better or surviving is all we are going to be doing in the next 100 years, whether it be hopping to makeshift colonies on other planets or losing the global-warming battle, or starting World War III over the lack of oil.
Personally, I think survival is inevitable, but beyond that, I have major concern for our future generations.
the issue of hair styles, body modifications, and one's general-appearance is a huge thing for any professional. i started as a freshman at purdue university in 2002, majoring in computer technology - telecommunications and networking. i got my left ear pierced in the lobe 3 weeks into school. i'm growing my hair out, i like wearing either Chaco Flips sandals everywhere or even going around barefoot. i wear cut off corduroy pants as shorts with Rusted Root, Phish, or any t-shirt I find at Goodwill that tickles my fancy. i have a goatee and my hair is starting to form some dreads. i switched my major to english a year and a half into my schooling. i knew i couldn't live a life i wanted to in the IT field, and i didn't want to be confined to a cubicle for all of it. i still, however, work as a network administrator at Elliott Hall of Music on campus, and i have never had anyone give me beef for walking around barefoot. some people call me the 'gypsie' or the 'hippie', and i am fine with that.
moral of the story: choose a career or life that gives you the most satisfaction, then hopefully these silly issues of little worth will not hinder you from anything!
would have worn off all the letterings on the keys anyway from 999 + work/gameplay. except for the notches under f and j. those little guys are immortal.
