Why are high-tech physics so much surrounded by the god theme anyway?
In YouTube, I see the professional guys like Lawrence Krauss sitting and debating for hours against religions.
Why do theoretical physicists (but not computer scientists, for example) waste their time like this, instead of using that time to present a cool science keynote?
Notepad is crusty and not better than anything. Notepad has a glitchy word wrap, it does not allow different color themes and it does not show line numbers, for starters.
I have been surprised how well Classic Shell integrates to Win8. After installation, it feels like a core component of Windows. No taped-on feeling or anything.
I wonder how it "taps on" to the Start Button click? One might think that it's quite tricky to intercept something like that.
You put a gigantic switch in the Control Panel somewhere: "Enable touchscreen UI (recommended for tablet use) / Disable touchscreen UI (recommended for desktop use)".
This is probably something that is going to happen soon. It's bound to.
And when you have multiple versions of the same product installed (in different directories) for testing purposes, how does seach really resolve that?
I've found this a bit problematic too. The search gives you no context about where the found item is. It's just like a big pool of files and program shortcuts with all the hierarchy lost. Also, as the "All Apps" view in Start Screen is incredibly clunky to use, no wonder people resort to just searching.
Exactly. Having luxurious amounts of CPU power is not an excuse to do things badly anyway. Besides, you will save more battery on a laptop the less the CPU is being tasked.

Would you be better off programming with Notepad?

Anything can be done. Will you volunteer to do all the hard work to make that happen?
There is no such mistake. It reads correctly "its way".
Nice one.
There's also a side story in this scoop which involves Nokia allegedly handing over user data to Finnish police without a warrant.

I know that perfectly fine. There's just no reason to deploy inferior cable when you can as well go with CAT6 "just because you can".
But we geeks want blazing fast megaconnections! Where's the spirit?
get all your stuff off wifi and onto cat 5.
There's no reason to not deploy only CAT6 today.
Ballmer and Larson-Green were at control when those decisions were originally made. No big shots to fire anymore.
Is that the introduction to your new "computer architecture and virtual machines" book?
I don't know really. Soylent News is still stuck with D1 and it is a bit crusty. Moderating and replying takes you to another page, for example.

It probably tells you about Win+X and all the other keyboard shortcuts in one of the tutorials or other junk at first boot that I didn't watch.
Well, it does not. It tells you this:
"Hi. While we're getting things ready, check out the new way to use Windows. After your PC is ready, move your mouse into any corner. Let's start."
You are correct. Technically the phrase de facto is used a bit incorrectly in the summary.
True.
It just shows how borked the current UI is, as people regularly have to resort to some undiscoverable secret menu to get through basic tasks.

It's not that obvious. If we look past the recent Start Screen silliness, the NT 6 core has made Windows a fine OS in general.

The article talks about the "start button" making a comeback, but it obviously did in 8.1 already. Are they actually talking about Start Menu?
"De facto" here means that it happens to be used by default by Chrome, but it isn't an industry standard reference decoder.

I recommend keeping the browser updated on all operating systems.
I thought FTP cannot include a user agent string anywhere.
