if a gui goes wrong, unless the designers thought of that circumstance, you're left with some internal state
inconsistency that you can't even diagnose much less address.
Right. But that's a bug in the software, while I was talking about user errors.
It's easier to shoot yourself in the foot with the command line. A wrong character at some position might cause a lot of unexpected behavior and leave a good mess to clean. Just offering a counter-argument for the sake of discussion.
Those bugs and glitches are addressed as quickly and efficiently as any other OS addresses their own bugs and glitches.
But they aren't. They sit in the distro's bug tracker forever, with the occasional unhelpful "have you tested the latest release if the bug is still present" and the bug ultimately just expires due to no activity.
That last one? Updating the kernel disables the keyboard? That's pretty serious. Something one would expect from Apple, LMAO!! The rather simple workaround, however, is to select the older kernel, where the keyboard did work. Presuming, of course, that the machine is configured so that selection of kernels is possible.
Yes. The keyboard bug is tracked in mainline now and I personally did a kernel bisect and pinpointed out the particular commit which causes the bug. The result? Crickets chirping.
Interestingly The Simpsons has started to suck Apple's cock quite a bit in the last couple of years. They constantly show a MacBook or iPod, and every now and then go into places like Apple Store. I guess this is just a sponsored deal though.
Damn it would be cool if Slashdot had a discrete API for pulling news and messages. Nice, fast and configurable native clients could be developed to any platform.
The AK-47's only purpose is to assist in killing people so it certainly raises the question whether designing something like that is ethical or not. But I guess someone could also make the counter-argument that if a gun is used for only defense purposes, it might avoid even more violence being happening. I dunno.
So you would like them to cash for all the intermediate steps by making you buy a separate laptop each time? Well, at least that would be quite typical to the business...
I have somewhat alleviated the problem by using the Windows 8.1 app snap feature to toss some Modern UI app (Twitter is nice, for example) to the side of the screen and then use the remaining space as a 4:3 desktop.

I don't see why that would be necessary.

I mean interpreting power events twice or having a mysterious corner tap click or breaking simple AT keyboard of various notebooks. I come across glitches like this all the time.
Qt Creator is hands down the best C/C++ IDE for Linux.
Bring on the Linux version of GTA, Battlefield, and other major titles, PLEASE!
Try Serious Sam 3: BFE for this holiday.
LEDs also have better color rendition capability than CFLs.
Have you checked the WiFi parts of the source code?
Why not? That's like asking, why in the age of audiobooks would anyone read paper books?
A smart phone is a bit like the Microsoft operating system: it does everything, but does not do any of them well.
Wouldn't that better describe a Linux operating system?
Gives you the full power to do everything with your computer, but is full of little bugs here and there.
In your words: it does everything, but does not do any of them well.
Ahh, perfect for my attention span!
And of course, the http://archive.org/ deserves a mention.
I guess these kind of services have the best chances of retaining at least something.

BTW here's Mikko's recent TED talk on the topic if you haven't seen it yet.
The reasoning behind this is that since Americans aren't rioting
Why are you not rioting then? The image that you are just sitting on your asses and doing nothing is not completely unfounded.
It is important to remember that we're all in this together. It is a world problem, not a US problem.
Maybe, but the scale and depth of the NSA surveillance projects are way beyond anything else on this planet. You clearly are the biggest offender.

Why would it be different? Maybe it is, but I don't see why it would be.

That's interesting. With a little bit of testing different distances and some extrapolation it looks like 360 PPI would be good enough for me.
At which distance?
Pro Tools incorporated some nice high-DPI support in version 11.
1080 x 810?
Doesn't sound that great.
Actually 4:3 would be something like 1920x1440 or 1440x1080.
