I always remember Nokia as being a point of national pride for the finns! They loved to brag about it, being in the forefront of a hot and growing tech industry. Why are they letting an American company walk in and scoop it all up in what is essentially a giant fraudulent business exchange? So many high-tech jobs lost. Where is the outrage?
As a Finn I suggest that it is because Finns are too humble...
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy GTA games once in a while, but you mostly walk around between one crappy mini-game and the next with a so-so story gluing it all together. The mini-games aren't any better than random flash games online.
I skipped a lot of those mini-games too in GTA4. Weren't my cup of tea either. The missions were lots of fun though.
How do you explain GTA4? It was delayed a year and performed like shit on PC when it was released. GTA was originally a PC game and they have been treating PC as a second class citizen lately.
Indeed, the game is quite CPU-intensive. The PlayStation 3 version runs poorly too, the frame rate constantly dwells in the sub-20fps range.
Why does everyone badmouth that system? It wasn't the Playstation, but it wasn't that bad either. If you *really* want something to forget, the Virtual Boy and Power Glove are much better candidates.
The construction and EMI protection of the console was also pretty good.
I fail to see how that's digital, but it's a cool advancement none the less. The beam itself is still just a laser beam.
There's a lot of misuse of the word "digital". It ultimately just means something which comes in quantified pieces. Not necessarily even electronic or computerized. It is a cool word for marketing though...
Why does Catalyst use 150MiB of RAM and take 15 seconds to open from the tray? Why does it then take 5 additional seconds to switch tabs inside it?
The Catalyst Control Center is created using.NET Framework and probably badly optimized anyway. It's sad that a simple program to flip some switches is so heavyweight.
Things like this happen, but I have to say that these days Microsoft has mostly taped Windows together quite well. We don't anymore see sensational headlines like "Blaster worm infects millions of computers". So for the 6.x core things are way better than in the past. However the EOL'ing of Windows XP will probably zombify heaps of machines.
let me ask you a question in return - are you a troll, a corporate shill, or just stupid?
Huh? Why are you so angry? Many people do their gaming with only a console. It was a legitimate suggestion. So apparently it's not your cup of tea. I get it, okay.
If not, this gives them a great learning opportunity.
How are you going to google for instructions when your network card is a cheap belkin that won't work?
Exactly, there you go! That's a perfect problem for the kid to solve: "Your grandma has an Ubuntu computer with a cheap Belkin network adapter which does not work, how do you google for instructions?"
Question is if people know what it is and what to do with it.
It's not the end of the world if some don't. The XP will be EOL'd anyway and their computers become an unsupported can of malware, which would be even worse. Let's bravely just hand the installation DVD and see what happens. It's a good challenge for Ubuntu.
But most of their other businesses depend on Windows in a way or another. Shutting down the Windows division would be extremely detrimental for the company.
Anyway, Carmack's opinion is moot. id have released Doom, Quake, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Doom 3, Quake 4, and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars on Linux. Thanks, but we already bought those games when they were released on Windows, or when they were on sale two years ago. Release something new and come back to us.
Pah! I bought Doom 3 BFG Edition and Return to Castle Wolfenstein this year, you insensitive clod!:P
I'm only going to buy products that work with Linux
I think one of the best ideas when striving to buy "products that work with Linux", is to get a computer with Intel HD Graphics, as they have excellent full-feature open source drivers.
I would happily keep Windows for games and Linux for everything else, but Microsoft shot themselves in the foot with UEFI and Secure Boot. If they're essentially going to FORCE me to choose one or the other then I'm personally going to choose Linux
Every time when some hardware security feature (such as TPM or SecureBoot) is added to the PC, Linux users oppose it, even though it doesn't conflict with any OSS software and might even provide a security feature for Linux users too.
does that matter? He still maintains the repo, still performs the merges, still does the quality control, still determines the direction of future updates. As Slashdot is fond of saying, the quality of a developer isn't just determined by the number of lines or commits he contributes.
Actually I think Linus has enough work with all that. He probably wouldn't even have time to do much coding.

This. A good blowjob usually gets the Nintendo stuff working.

I wonder if anyone actually takes the responsibility to do this check. Maybe there are GCC binaries in the wild which replicate a backdoor.
Hmm, that's a cool log actually. I browsed that a bit and there's a funny patch where someone corrects typos of HDMI being written "HMDI".

Come on, Linus, you can create an account.

On the downside, how many kids/grandkids are there that will know how to fix their parents/grandparents Linux machines?
If not, this gives them a great learning opportunity.
of course, if you have a huge stomach you just can't hold the kb on the lap while lounging on the couch like I'm doing right now.
Doesn't sound something like Gabe would approve, then...

Have you considered getting a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as your gaming machine? That would remove many of your worries.

I wonder how Doom 4 is proceeding. I assume it still is an active project at id Software.

You probably meant "smaller".
