Ubuntu has some power to make Linux more known in general crowd, which in turn helps the Linux ecosystem as whole. Thus it might be good to let Ubuntu flourish on the side, even if you are a user of some other distro.
Those links make the pirating possible in the first place. Someone has to index the magnet links for people to find the actual files. So while the material itself is not on the torrent sites, they are heavily "partners in crime". Like a drug dealer, but not drug maker.
The "game logic" as you call it is not on the server for SimCity, what is on the server are your "saved games" city statistics, etc, all of which can and will be easily offloaded to a private server once SimCity is cracked. Yes it will take a little bit longer than other DRM but this is very simple to do once the protocol and server messages are all identified and a private server is written and emulated.
It's just sad that the fans of the game have to go through the effort to reimplement all that.
Could not have said it better. Around 2000, there was a time where you could actually benefit from using Linux desktop instead of Windows: it was much more stable, faster and secure. These days, the situation has somewhat flipped around: the desktop of Windows is more stable, much faster, and secure enough.
I don't mind having to fix things up on a free operating system but paying out a bunch of money for windows and then struggling to keep it going would piss me off.
While Windows costs the $150, I think it simply is worth it. It just offers so much less headaches than desktop Linux that the price is justified.
Add to this the fact that they are finally reinventing the wheel *correctly* with Unity switching fully to QT, which will let there be an alignment with the Ubuntu phone and tablet announced programming paradigm.
Will the workstation Unity also be converted to Qt?
That said - can't someone come up with a script to do this for us? I'm thinking something like the UNIX fortune program (kinda like the one at the bottom of/.). We could even spruce it up with better and better AI/pattern matching over the years to provide better results.
Ok, now. Can someone at/. who calls himself a "networking expert" step up and verify whether the analysis at rdns.im proves indisputably that this is a hoax?
Another one: if this turns out to be fake, it will be interesting to hear why did TPB craft this setup and the announcement.
I wanted to try Ubuntu at one point. The download page asked me to pay money to Canonical.
You don't have to pay. But Ubuntu is like Wikipedia: if you would like to see something like that in the future, and help it become even more awesome, you can throw some coins in the guitar case.
There are literally wall mounts everywhere now days, all screens are VESA compatible mounts now days.
Not really. There's plenty of monitors on the market which do not have any kind of wall mounting mechanism. (On the other hand, finding a VESA mountable display is very easy, too.)
Hey, I don't imagine that the very expensive, premium quality Apple laptops could have such an obvious engineering problems. Instead, I imagine that they would keep ticking stably even if forgotten chucked inside the seam of a sofa for a couple of hours. The heat-conducting aluminum surface and the strategically placed cooling channels will take care of everything.

Torrent sites don't store material, only links.

Not only that, but the Amazon reviews seem to mention various other glitches that make the game unenjoyable.

Here in Finland, at one point I had unlimited 3G and was able to consume 44GB per month watching 720p YouTube and stuff.
Thank you for saying "cue" instead of "queue" which is so common these days.
That's their security strategy so that data gets only transmitted down and the planes don't get cracked into.

What hardware will you buy then? For your general computing needs, that is.
Desktop effects can be disabled or enabled any time by pressing Alt+Shift+F12.

At least they are reimplementing something that needs reimplementation, instead of coming up with yet another desktop environment.

Sounds interesting! Could you develop the script?
I'm not sure if you're trolling or just ignorant
I think the GP is a nice classic troll. :)
Please provide a link to the common Linux desktop API!
At least Freedesktop has some standards.
Eh?
Good to know to stay away from Arch.
What kind of problems did you have with Unity?

Ah, studio quality! We have them too.
Just for the record, isn't this actually the first product line that Steve Jobs has had nothing to do with?

Hey, he's just a nerd. The weirder and more specialized Linux desktop you have, the better.
