  1. Time Travel is bogus too on Deathbed Confession Says Aliens Were at Roswell · · Score: 1

Everyone mentions time travel and imagine it happening like in a Hollywood movies, hate to burst everyones bubble but even if you do have time travel in say 200 years the earth will be trillions of miles away from the position it is in today. The earth, solar system, galaxy are all hurtling through space and time in a direction that leads away from the relative position in time that earth was in before. The best way to imagine it is if there is a conveyor belt for each year that passes, the longer you stay on your conveyor belt of time the further your positions changes, now lets say you jump of the conveyer belt 200 year into the future onto the year 2007, your relative position stays the same so your still miles away from the 2007 point were earth is positioned on the conveyor belt.

I've been looking for a new all in one mobile phone and to be honest the iPhone doesn't cut it for me and neither does the Nokia N95 (although it comes close). Then I stumbled across the soon to be released Openmoko Linux based and open mobile phone. Although the first released model (second model should have WiFi) lacks Wifi it will have bluetooth and a lcd screen that blows the one offered by the iPhone out of the water. The phone will be completely (well as much as it can be) open source so all the FOSS games and applications can be ported over if need be and anyone can develop applications without having to jump through a complex licensing scheme. If your patient wait till 2008 for the GTA02 model that should blow your socks off.

After some experience with a few of these all in one wonders that have been recently released I have found they all fail severely on one point, battery life, having to charge the battery every day can become a bit wearing and the iPhone will suffer this to a greater degree due to its huge feature set. More features means more code, more code means a more power hungry cpu, all those pretty graphics on your phone will soon become your worse nightmare as you have to take a sync cable with you for your twice daily recharge.

The concept and the product is actually very good but the project takes very little notice of economic realities. They should have designed two units, one slightly larger in plain black and the other in bright colours and smaller (as it is now). Sell the black unit at a premium price to raise capital and leverage the good will aspect of the product to make it a very enticing option. The internals of both laptops would be the same so it would mean they would reach a larger production scales faster thus saving a small fortune plus increasing the return on the premium unit.

  21. The Great Lie on Turkish Assembly Votes For Censoring of Web Sites · · Score: 1

I never knew about the Armenian holocaust until I had the opportunity to work with an Armenian for over a year. They are very nice people and will happily open their doors to a friends. I was talking about some issue in Turkey one day and I have never seen someone change from being so normal to pure hatred so quickly so I decided to let it lie. I then did some research on the issue to see what it was all about and I became totally shocked. Not only do the Turkish people deny what they have done when confronted with a mountain of evidence but they are totally ignorant of there actions in conjunction with the Jewish Holocaust. Let me explain, the Nazi's knew about the Turks and the Armenian Holocaust and how the Axis nations did to punish the Turks after the war. So the Nazi's decided it was fine to do the same to the Jews because even if they lost no one will get dragged in front of a firing squad. I have talked to some Turks about it and they go into total denial so now I have "zero" respect for all turks and can fully understand why the Armenians hate them. So this enforced denial just makes people like me have very little if any respect for Turkey as a nation and breeds more hate from the Armenian side, will I buy any Turkish products if I have a choice, hell no they can go and rot.

Sorry I missed a bit, what the study actually found was how little ethanol you needed, you can have a small tank (around 10 litres) and it would last 3 months on a single refill for the average commuter, but the engine could have 2 times to 4 times the power to weight ratio.

  24. CSIRO have researched this on A New Lease On Internal Combustion · · Score: 1

I listened to a CSIRO podcast about this about 6 months ago. With normal combustion as you increase the pressure you also increase the problem of early ignition (knock) due to a side effect of the temperature increasing. What they found out was if you add ethanol it has a "cooling" effect to the combustion chamber thus allowing you to increase the pressure in the combustion chamber. For auto makers this means they can use smaller lighter motors in a car to gain the same amount of power output.

  25. Black Holes on The Search for Dark Matter and Dark Energy · · Score: 1

I cant but help feeling like we applying classical science to something that is far more complex but let alone obvious at the same time. We now know black holes are at the centre all galaxies and I have oft wondered if the side effect of a black hole between the different planes of space and the matter contained within are in some way interacting as an effect on our plane of space. If this is true we will never find dark matter because we are looking at a side effect not some weird form of matter. Think of it as two spacetial planes and a black hole pulls these plains close together thus causing a wide spread interactive effect between the matter in each. So what we are seeing is a side effect not some goofy bit of matter.
