  1. Re:Call me naive... on First New Nuclear Plant in US in 30 years · · Score: 2, Insightful

Okay. That seems perfectly reasonable. Except by... the fact that Americans are not used to do that way. The society relies on waste of resources. Any idea of reduction of resources availability seem quite indecorous to society and in another context would be tagged as sort of communism. America prospers on activity and by now I am astonished by the raise of the environmental entrepreneurs. However I think the crisis is far less than enough to compel American society towards any restriction of consuming. Given the current waste of energy in my country, which relies primarily on hydroelectric power plants, we are in an artificial borderline and this situation create the necessary pressure to expand the grid, e.g. buying another nuclear plant. The waste of energy at the ordinary commercial building or houses creates an artificial shortage. We have inefficient air conditioning and illumination. Sometimes the bad design is the purpose to keep things running. Until the resources crisis aren't a real big pressure, environmental concern won't prevail.

As a parent of two, I cannot agree with this crappy attempt to push away responsabilities. In a strict view that is just to kill the messenger. Blame another one for their miscare and absence in children formation. Sure child abusers must be disconnected and condemned, and pursued wherever they are. I use to think of myspace or equivalents as a club where you can be approved with low criteria. And I am very sure kids must be aware of online menaces just the same manner we warn them about unknown people down the street, or we tell them to look aside before crossing.... Hell, I can't believe America's power will last untill this confused, super-protected, leashed generation becomes the so called adults. The attempt to put every problem to a court is just an escape, and in US it became an industry.

At this moment it does not seem to be blocked here (São Paulo). The entire episode is a media prank. Whatever it happens or not... We here don't fear youtube blockages: We simply do Proxy. I think the media fluss is a success already. Not only every single Brazilian had the privilege to see that video. That included grandma. Now, daniella was slashdotted. Not bad at all as a first step to become, hum, a more global big-mouthed starlet.

I personally can't wait to see machines taking the control of traffic. Most of the problems in the traffic are drove by stupidity of human beens, whatever inability or lack of prudence. Machines won't use the vehicle as a public display of 'pilot skills' and won't suffer of road rage. Actually I predict a safer traffic guided by machinery. Let humans do what they do better, whatever else than exhibit their lack of education in traffic jams.

Well. I see some progress when someone tries to explain reasonably why the hell he or she chooses to drive a truck instead of a car. In my country there is a frenzy devotion for cars. I have seen this my whole life. It might be that way because large distances... By these times SUV became more than a truck, a choice as a car. And let me put in real words what is the main reason of SUV Driver: Power. Take 4 thousand pounds of steel with you wherever you go. Cars are modern armor. SUVs make pretty good armor. It's just a status symbol, here or wherever else. Power. Be above the mediocrity of traffic...

In fact, there is some effect, not exact directly over climate or temperature.
Once the pole shift occurs, it is almost sure the magnetic field decreasing will modify the amount of radiation from outer space, mostly from the sun, wich hits the ground.
The 'magnetosphere' seems to have been protecting life on Earth from outer space electromagnetic radiation. However, there is evidence that it hasn't been always that way.
This point is assured by paleonthological register in ancient rock, permitting us to suppose an approximate cyclic behavior for the planet's magnetic field. In an interval of approx 50000-100000 years, the field is inverted, and last of these was witnessed by early humans. What consequences the increased radiation will produce in us humans, and over the whole planet and its life forms, is a complete mistery by now.
