  1. VBC. Yup me too. on Do Your Developers Have Local Admin Rights? · · Score: 1

I also work for a Very Big Corporation. Shudder. I was tols I could develop applications under the following guide lines. No access to toad. No IDE. Only what was offered to Office workers. No admin rights locally. 1) Submit the criteria of the app. 2) Build 25% of the app, but don't run it. 3) submit this 25% for security verification (4-6 weeks) 4) Build the next 25%... Etc till the app is 100% Then submit for one more security review. Then allow the end user to see the application with the first run. If they dont like the application? Return to step 1. I finally got access to Admin and usually bypass all of their restrictions and can get the job done. Sheer incompetance.

I applaud the release of the data, I'm going to read the released docs and the licensing then decide then how and what I can do to increase the abilities of my code and how I can use it as leverage to increase my income. As for Apple? I designed one of the first digital EMG (muscle signals) machines on an Apple IIE. Sold well, worked well. Then Apple closed source and wanted BIG bucks to learn how to redo it for the LISA. Boom. Dead. Where was Linux? Still a wet dream with out a driver. And I know... Jumping to Mars is a poor idea. Despite the advances we have made with ISS and life support systems in general, we need to develop landers and hab systems well before we push for Mars. Its like testing prototype equipment by going straight to Mt Everest and HOPING that it works. ISS is teaching us life support, long term zero G technology's and assembly in space. Now we should move to the moon, learn to land (again), establish bases and maintaining them. The moon is just 4 days away, mars, months.
