Yeah, because they need a sysadmin, and any boob can pick up the neccesary skills in a couple of community college courses. Sysadmins? They're a dime a dozen, and all the same. How hard is it to turn on a computer, anyway? Augh.
If the tasks were simple enough that a high school kid who "likes computers" could do it just fine, they wouldn't need a real sysadmin. Probably no one would. Augh. It doesn't matter if you're dealing with five boxes or five hundred - if the job's worth doing, it's worth doing *right*. Doing the job "right" doesn't mean having one of the existing employees handle sysadmin tasks in their spare time - though it might mean having the sysadmin do other tasks in his spare time...
I take it you're a sysadmin! I didn't mean to sound as if I thought the job was easy, but you have to admit that there are highschool and college students that could handle the job. I'm sure there a lots of sysadmin slashdot readers who would agree with me.
When will patriotic sentiment make way for intelligent remarks ?
I should have prefaced my earlier post with this:
I am a Canadian, and not an American. I believe in free market economics, provided that monopolies and unfair business practices are controlled. And, most importantly, I believe that most patriotism is PFS (pretty fucking stupid). Why should people feel proud of things they had no control over?
That said, there is no reason to only post arguments on slashdot that you agree with 100%. Both sides should be represented to try and get rid of the groupthink mentality.
The chinese CHOSE to be socialist, and CHOSE to be repressed
Are you fucking kidding me? The average Chinese person did not choose a totalitarian government! There is a difference between socialism and the Chinese government's policies. Socialism can co-exist with individual rights, and what the Chinese have, more closely resembles Fascism in that respesct.
From the article: Even in the United States, where the First Amendment protects speech from government interference, service providers impose terms and conditions of use that limit what can be posted online and search engines routinely take content from their indexes if it infringes copyright or is deemed inappropriate.
But Americans are free to change ISPs, and more importantly, Americans are free to read other people's compliants about those ISPs on the internet. Americans are also free to use another search engine. I really can't believe how anyone could sympathize with government sponsored censorship.
I understand the purpose of making web services available to mobile devices. I'm not sure I understand the point of making web pages (designed for 800x600 or greater) available, thought.
Well there are hundreds of millions of webpages that will never be converted to mobile friendly. I assume that some people would like to be able to access these pages on their mobile devices.
When will anti-Microsoft sentiment make way for patriotism? What I mean is, how far is everyone to allow the European Union to go with this? Are they trying to give European developers an unfair advantage?
You're right in that the best cellphone webpages are specifically designed for the purpose. This site makes it possible to view regular webpages on cellphones, however.
Embedded devices such as phones and digital TVs, which will have no need to support the Web's legacy of messy HTML, and are free to take unburdened advantage of XHTML 2.0.
I would have thought that if the devices didn't need to serve up web content, they would use a proprietary system that is best suited for the job. If they did serve up web content, than of course they should support HTML.
No, we have a representative democracy because no politician has ever tried to give up more power to the people. I can not understand how Americans could be content with a two party system. Why don't we do elections in a tiered sytem where we vote our preferences for 9 or 10 candidates?
I can't help but see the similarities between Mccarthyism and the Salem witch trials wither. The government needs a boogeyman.
It's easy for me to say that drunk driving has killed way more people than terrorism in the last 10 years, but honestly, I wasn't at ground zero, and something like that must have really messed with a lot of people's minds.
Rumor has it that two more Mortal Combat movies are in the works. What's even better is that these movies ingnore the second movie as if it never existed.
When will they make a pacman movie starring Richard Gere?
I'll just assume that somebody cares about what I have to say:
I dropped out of community college a few years back because of lack of motivation (laziness?). I then worked a shit job for a year and went back to college. Dropped out again, shit! Well now I'm going to try the online college route at Athabasca and work at the same time. I guess my point (if there is one), is that you shouldn't give up. Eventually you'll find something you like, and you'll probably thank yourself in 30 years.
Have you considered sending one of the five employees to a community college for some classes? Maybe a part time highschool or college student would fit the part too. You could hand him some mindless tasks when nothing else needs to be done.
I find this surprising. I would have guessed that all of the publicity would have actually helped the game, and I wouldn't have been surprised if Take-Two let the Hot Coffee easter egg out on purpose. Usually bad publicity is good publicity (Public Enemy, 2 Live Crew).

I love that answer! People can rationalize anything, sadly. Here's a relevant quote that I came across just yesterday.
Virtue is more to be feared than vice, because its excesses are not subject to the regulation of conscience. - Adam Smith (the father of economics)

For a start, the economic loss caused by bird flu will run in to trillions.
Really? Where'd you get that information? Anyways, for the rest of your post I agree with you completely.
If you're bored at work, you may want to try Excel Tetris.
It's no exaggeration to say that Tetris single-handedly created the portable market...
I think handheld football deserves that honor.

How secure are these transmissions? Wouldn't high tech companies in Silicon Valley need extreme security?
Okay, it doesn't work on all websites...

I'm sure the shareholders would love that!
Thank you!

Webmail - do all communication, interview scheduling, resume sending ect. through it (since you can access anywhere).
Just make sure your email address isn't manwhore653@gmail.com
If you live in Ontario, this site is great. Just don't go stealing the good jobs, as I'm still looking too!

Seriously people. Metamoderators need to pay a little more attention. Flamebait?
