    I think he means something along the lines of "Do not lock teachers up for defending themselves from violent students"

    Could be, and again that would be sensible - do they lock teachers up for this at the moment? I have so far had two plausible but different interpretations of what he meant

    Many schools have a policy of expulsion for any student involve in any altercation, regardless of the reason. Better put, if, as a student, I was attacked and subdued my attacker, I would be automatically expelled. I was involved in several fights in school, mostly defending friends. I never used any more force than required to terminate the situation and never instigated. If these policies had been in place when I was in school (not that long ago, the late 1990s), I would have been expelled immediately. Blind application of policies is pretty much always bad, particularly when they have strong consequence.

    That makes sense, if there is such a blanket policy it should be ended. I would go with normal disciplinary procedures of teachers who still tried to enforce it though rather than imprisonment. After all there are always shades of grey, the bully who taunts someone into fighting ("come on you coward") so that they can legally pound them, etc.

    While I'm all for trolling Muslims, they are not going to decide to ignore the teachings of their faith and be peaceful, respect equality, free speech just because of logic. They're incapable of basic decent humanity, let alone logic. Oh and to preempt those who say that pointing out the evils of Islam is "racist", white Muslims are Just as Capable and likely to be terrorists as brown ones, and there are plenty of brown victims, the peaceful Coptic Christians for example.

    I remember reading about a British MP who took money to promote a local business. One of his pleas for mitigation was that part of his job was to promote local businesses, and would have done so if simply asked to anyway!

    I think they only register on Facebook don't actually vote there, although with America and their evoting machines you never know. As for unnecessarily complicating the voting process to scare off undecided voters, that may not have the effect you are hoping for. You see, the more you know, the less you trust all the bullshit the parties are feeding to you, or that elections really have an effect on your life. The people who will go to an election no matter what are the radicals.

    It makes a difference from the "hanging chad", people saying "I didn't vote I just clicked "like" on a picture of a kitten and it registered as a vote for Mitt Romney"

A more useful exercise would have been talking people into buying Lemote laptops and changing their computing lifestyles to live completely in Emacs, and make Lisp and Scheme the only programming languages to know.

    I don't quite see the business model of filing an idiotically general patent, waiting around, suing someone for using it, spending millions defending it in court, and getting the patent thrown out and paying the competitor's legal fees.

    The business model is "buy a few years where there is no competition". A few million in lawyers fees is nothing compared to the profits the temporary monopoly will give them.
