I am the sys admin/webmaster for my church on campus (UT Arlington) and we have a small network setup with 4 computers (2 WinXP/2 SuSE 9.1) no one can tell (except the CS majors)
for the teachers just replace the OOo icon with a Word icon and replace firefox icon with that ugly blue 'e'
I just know that when they can get winblows on the Intel Mac, then I can get my favorite flavor of linux up and running with OSX. Why? Because I have the right to do so if I so choose. And thats why people want this. Not to increase the MS stranglehold but to give people choices.
That's just it, I'm not developing for MS, but developers still have to play nicely with MS if they want people to use their products.
Example: Would OpenOffice.org be as successful if they just said f# MS? I don't belive so. they needed to port to windows, and be able to read/write.doc (They're trying to play nicely)
p.s. I'm no MS advocate, (can't stand their business models), but that doesn't mean that they need to take thier toys and go home either, they just need to learn how so share.
Thats just it if I'm trying to write a widget that interfaces with a MS product (or any other product) I don't want to waste my time trying to hack out a fix that might work. But to make my product cheaper, more efficient and working all of the time i need proper documentation.
It's like a child drawing a picture expecting you to be able to say "Aww what a beautiful..." and you don't know wtf it is!
I am working on adding an STR layer, but I am having difficulty finding a complete nation wide coverage (not provided by my employer) so I can offer it to the general public.
If anyone know where I can find such coverage that would be great!
Well I work reports that disclose if natural hazards occur on a certain peice of property. And I use the google maps/sat imgs in helping to verify: 1. Location (Lat/Lon) 2. What type of structure is on that property.
Yes I actually do use professional grade software too but, the google maps offers a quick and easy way for me to get to that information.
I am really looking forward to this upcomming release. Maybe the "It's not M$ so its not as good" people in my office will actually open their eyes to better software.
(I belive that the only reason that they still use M$ is because that can set it on "auto-pilot" and just sit back)
Then MS is just THE largest member of an oligopolistic market where the main two players are MS and Apple

Would that mean that there could be legal actions against slashdotting in the UK?
Wouldn't this fall into the fair use catagory? I mean if you purchase the equipment then don't you have the right to be able to use it?

Don't you mean the original release date in 2003!
Is this only available on windows or is there a OSX and linux version somewhere? I cannot seem to locate either.
would that then mean that Apple would have to pay royalties to this guy?
That just goes to show you how much they listen the 'their own' when it comes to advice
so what makes me think that they would actually listen to 'outsiders'?
